            “You don’t cry, do you?”

“Why would I want to cry?” Lance asked, arching an eyebrow. Charlotte simply chuckled, as she slid the vial across the table to him.

“You know why, Lord of Dragons.” She smiled. “I wish you happiness. It is a pity you cannot have eternal peace…”

“If I cannot have eternal peace, I can at least have temporary peace.” Lance rejoined. “Be blessed in your endeavors.”

Charlotte nodded, and said no more, as he left the table.

Lance reached the Plateau fairly quickly, and entered his room, shutting the door behind him. He immediately swallowed two of the pills, not saying a word. Feeling calm begin to wash through his body, he reached for his hairbrush and began brushing his hair. Moments later, a knock came at the door.

Lance sighed, and opened the door to reveal a tear-streaked Champion.

“What is it, Ash?” He asked.

“G-Gary… he’s… he broken up with me!” He wailed.

Lance resisted the urge to slam the door in Ash’s face, gave him a steely glare. “That’s nice.”

            “Lance!” Ash wailed.

“What?” He asked. “We are no longer in a relationship of any kind. Go find your next fuck buddy and leave me alone.”

He closed the door with a soft click.

Ash stared at the closed door, feeling frustrated. Why didn’t Lance understand?

Well, it was his fault for cheating on Lance, and even though they hadn’t officially broken up their relationship had just kind of… dissolved, and Lance had stopped talking to him, which had been bearable, since he had Gary, but now…

            But now…

            He needed comfort!

He wanted Lance to understand and cuddle him and make him hot chocolate!

He stared at the door angrily, as if he could force it to open by will alone.

            He wanted…

Lance finished brushing his hair, and replaced his hairpins. He poured himself a cup of green tea, and began to perfuse a fascinating macabre novel. Three hours later, when he was about to leave for dinner, he found Ash waiting outside his door.

            “…”

The Dragon Master said nothing and moved past him, and Ash just stared, not knowing what to do or say.

Did Lance hate him that much?

No, he decided. If Lance hated him, Lance would yell and scream and maybe hit him, but even that would be better than this silence!

Tears trickled down his cheeks, as he began to sob, and there was no comfort.

            Pity.
