It’s so easy to fall, to slip off the fragile bridge holding him to sanity, because now that the war is over there is nothing left to lose. He holds Red close as golden madness dances in his eyes, furious blaze of anger towards the one who dared steal him away. The Champion is his, and Lance really doesn’t like to share. The stress has sapped his brilliant mind, twisted life into a parody of warfare, and what made him unstoppable in battle in peacetime is deadly sin.

Red places a comforting hand on Lance’s arm, feeling tense muscle beneath sleek black silk, and feels sad, that things have come to this. He’s happy that they won and that Kanto is safe, but the price is so high, and there are still debts to be paid, even now.

He doesn’t mind belonging to Lance, because Lance would never hurt him, but the others think it’s wrong and immoral. They don’t understand – they didn’t break to win the war. But Lance did, and Red feels he deserves at the very least recognition, at the most, everything. But he’s content to stay with Lance and keep him grounded, so…

He has to do this, and by the time he’s finished, they’re the only two alive and breathing.

Lance blinks at him, almost stunned, before Red kisses him, for reassurance and for himself, because he doesn’t want to admit that he’s broken too.
