Red finds it very easy to cling to Lance, because Lance is older than he is and has dealt with the demons that still plague them. They’re Champions, they’re powerful, and with great power comes great responsibility, and it’s hard to keep control when they get angry, seeing the excesses and abuses that people have wrought against pokemon.

He’s usually a good child, who keeps his temper, and takes good care of pokemon, and is nice and polite to everyone he meets. His mom is proud of him, and he visits her at least once every two weeks just to make sure she’s all right in Pallet town. He has nightmares at night, sometimes, and Lance holds him in his arms so he feels safe and comforted.

There’s a lot he can’t say, but at least he has Lance, because Lance understands him like no one else does. And sometimes he’ll just babble, on and on and on, with tears in his eyes, and Lance will nod and listen.

He doesn’t feel judged when he’s with Lance. There are no prying eyes, no gossiping whispers, and no reporters chasing him and murmuring derogatory words…

The kisses and the cuddles help too, because they make him feel loved.

Lance will love him no matter what, because he knows all about Red, all the good parts and the bad ones, and they’ll have each other for as long as life lives, and…

Red likes having someone just for him.
