Being with Lance makes him happy, Ash thinks. It’s nothing hard to understand – he is in love, and that is what counts. It doesn’t matter what might have happened before, because Ash lives in the present and as long as Lance is with him he knows that he can keep on going. It’s like a little golden shield protecting him, enabling him to face the terrors of the day-to-day, and he’s not going to give it up for anything, even if someone prettier comes along because that just wouldn’t be fair!

Lance isn’t sure what causes Ash’s change of heart, since he rather expects the boy to be mercurial of temperament, but they’ve been together for five years now and he still hasn’t let go, so maybe, Lance thinks, maybe it’s safe to trust his lover and just… enjoy it. They’re kissing under the starlight, and Lance is happy.
