They were dancing, a beautiful, sweeping movement that took one’s breath away. Tate took another sip of his ginger ale, frowning.

If only he had concrete proof. All he had now was a gut feeling. There was something wrong with that girl, Nakamura Red… there were still suspicious deaths around her, yes, but the Japanese police had given up on prosecuting Kira long ago, and no one had any definite proof.

Her boyfriend? Husband? Laughed as they spun around, the light picking up the tints in his red hair. Odd for a Japanese man…

            Meiji… Wataru…

Wataru’s father had worked on the task force under S, he was sure of that. After all, Sakaki had been the superintendent of the NPA. Professor Utsugi had managed to send him the files, so few, before his death.

How had Kira known his name?

Tate frowned as he finished his drink thoughtfully. Direct confrontation now would be no good. He was firmly ensconced in his authority as T, yes, but Japan was new to him….

Kira needed a name and a face to kill. He had deduced that much from the media coverage of criminals, and even now, the Internet was flooded with information. The staff at Sakura T.V. had their hands full with fan mail, hate mail, request, what have you…

But there had been a moment, when it had seemed that Kira had only needed a face to kill a person…

No, the policeman who had collapsed so many years ago was not important. Perhaps Kira had gotten access to police records. It would not have been that difficult to find his name, and his actions had been foolish.

He could hide his name. Even the staff at the orphanage didn’t know it, part of their training as detectives. All the children used code names.

Tate was not even his real name, but one name was as good as another with the world spinning so crazily out of control, dancing on a madman’s whim.

            Kira…

Seiyou – and that had been a code name too – had not believed in supernatural powers. It had taken them two, three years to learn of her death, so closely had the secret been buried. But somehow, Utsugi had sent them a text message, perhaps seconds before his untimely death, finally hunted down…

            How had they found him?

Was there really some supernatural power at work here? S had challenged Kira on television, before her face and name were known, and she had escaped…

Seeing that his quarry was leaving, Tate followed quietly. He watched as they got into their car, and smiled grimly. At least he had taken the precaution of bugging it…

“Are you all right?” Wataru asked solicitously. “We did leave a bit early.”

“Too much attention.” Red said. “Also, I think someone put something in my drink.”

            “Mm, I see.”

Nothing more was said as they drove back to their apartment. Tate watched, silently, on his tracking device, and the next day, when they were gone, he and Liza planted the bugs.

They would not lose. They would find their proof!

And then they would avenge Seiyou.

You know, they’ve been planting bugs in your house, just waiting for you to slip up…

“I’m quite aware of that, Daigo, but thank you.” Wataru said. Red meanwhile beamed at Mikuri, who smiled.

It was nice to have someone who Daigo liked around. It did wonders for his personality.

The Shinigami munched on another apple; briefly glancing around the campsite they were now in. So, planning on taking a vacation?

            “Perhaps.” Wataru said quietly.

How are you planning on finding T? Or will you just continue to avoid detection? Mikuri inquired curiously.

“Hmm… I’m afraid you’ll just have to watch and find out.” Wataru said, and spoke no more on the topic.
