No matter what, he can’t take any more of those painkillers. He’s sick of headaches and nausea and blurred vision, and Ruby’s watching him anxiously, because even though it’s not completely his fault Wallace is injured he still feels responsible. If he hadn’t been so selfish, maybe he could have prevented some of the damage…

Ruby read in the book from Mr. Briney that sometimes, Milotic can release a calming aura, and it’s worth a try, so he releases Mimi, and hopes that it will help, and Wallace smiles as Mimi coils around his bed and Ruby’s chair, and they both feel better.

Ruby holds Wallace’s hands, because he’s not sure what else he can do, so he offers what little comfort he can, and hopes it will help, and Mimi hums, high, trilling notes of music that relax both of them.

Wallace smiles, and closes his eyes.
