It was inevitable that things could not continue on in a state of serenity forever. Six years after S’s death, Wataru and Red were quite unhappy to find a new threat. It was a new investigator – someone to replace S, who went by ‘T’.

No, Red and Wataru were not happy with this affair. Daigo was morbidly amused – finally, things were picking up again! Mikuri was worried – he could see the numbers floating above Red and Wataru’s heads, and he dreaded the day when Red would look at him and ask for the eyes again.

Yes, Red had lost her eyes and Wataru her Shinigami wings, after they had forfeited their Death Notes and memories during the confinement, and now, well, they still had life, but would it be enough?

Wataru sighed as she leaned back in her chair. She had opted not to go into law enforcement – it was too easy to slip up, perhaps, and reveal that she was Kira. Red made a steady income from her modeling career, while Wataru supplemented it by writing darkly gothic novels under an assumed name.

            … And an assumed gender…

Really, it was laughably easy how things were sometimes…

But if this new threat proved formidable enough, well, steps would have to be made, wouldn’t they?

Thinking about something amusing, Wataru? Daigo asked.

Wataru smirked. “Daigo… I know you wouldn’t tell me how much time I had left, and even if one of us made the eye trade, we wouldn’t be able to see the lifespan of another Death Note holder…”

What’s your point? Daigo picked up an apple and began to munch on it loudly. Mikuri rolled his eyes.

“What I mean to say is,” Wataru said, directing her question to Mikuri, “Would you tell us who has more time left?”

Red goggled at her. Mikuri blinked, twice, before he shrugged.

Well, since you’re not the holder of my Death Note, so I see no reason not to… since Red made the eye trade with me, her lifespan has shortened considerably…

“Yes, I thought as much.” Wataru agreed. “So if the trade becomes necessary, I will be the one making it.”

            “Wait!” Red protested. “That’s…”

“You gave up half your lifespan for me, love.” Wataru said. “I don’t want you to have to cut it in half again.”

“But you did the trade for the Shinigami wings! So your lifespan has been cut too!”

“That is why I am hoping that neither of us will need to make that choice.” Wataru said grimly. “But T may well be more dangerous than S was. We must be careful.”

Red finally gave a nod, and said no more.

They would watch, and see what his first move was.

You know, I have greatly come to dislike repetitive themes. One must stretch one’s brain out quite a bit to encompass potential other meanings!

… Viz’s Death Note dub is absolute suckage
