She blinked her eyes open warily, as she glanced around, expecting the worst. She got it. Dried blood and crusted semen coated her inner thighs, and the intense agony radiating from her body was enough evidence. Of course there was no one else here, but she had not expected it.

She had known Shiba wasc unpredictable, but she had been too confident. Her Kairyuu could have defeated any of his pokémon single-handedly without breaking a sweat, but against such an assault, stranded without her pokémonc

She began to laugh, crazed hysterical laughter. Without her dragon team, there was no way to prove her identity as Ryuu no Meiji-sama and Sekiei Champion, for it was common knowledge that Wataru, the Leader of the Shitennou, was a malec

Kanna and Kikuko might believe her, but then she would have to explain what had happened. By now, Shiba must be broadcasting news of her disappearance far and wide. Clever of himcso clever!

She stood painfully, and began to walk.

Two weeks later, she was at the police station in Hanada City, claiming amnesia and refusing to say more. The men there were sympathetic, and quiet, and after a bath and a checkup, she was almost as good as new.

Yamato-san was quiet, as she dressed in clean slacks and a blouse, but his eyes told the story.

gIt is too late then?h She asked quietly.

            gc I am afraid so.h

gI suppose that it is my child as wellch Wataru frowned. An idea had begun to form in her mind, as she had wandered through the wilderness, and now, perhaps it was time to put it into action.

He nodded gravely.

gI shall not trouble you more than.h With a curt bow, she left.

She would keep the child, and she would teach him, and she would give him her power, for she was no longer worthy of being Ryuu no Meiji-sama, not with this disgrace. She would raise him, and when he was grown, he would take revenge for her.

She smiled.

It would be sweetc

It was lucky that she was so paranoid, had kept emergency supplies of cash in two separate accounts. She was sure that her main account was inaccessible now, but she was not going to starve, oh no.

She withdrew enough money to cover the cost of the necessary supplies, and then she rented a Pidgeot and flew to Seafoam.

She needed a place with peace and quiet, where she would not be disturbed and no one would suspect, for though she still wore gray contacts to hide the unnatural gold of her eyes, she would not need them much longer.

After she had set up her tent and fishing lines, she took out her contacts for the last time, flicked them into the swiftly flowing current and watched them float away. Only trainers seeking Articuno would ever come, so she would have plenty of time to set up, and wait.

She rested her hands over her stomach, and sighed.

Then she slept.

After several weeks without news, Shiba had become confident enough, and so, as Kikuko was much too old, he declared himself the new Leader of the Shitennou, and with that stroke, Sekiei Champion. Safe in the island caves, Wataru knew none of this. She was too busy with life. It was quite simple to do, and every day she would exercise and fish, keeping herself healthy for when the child would be born. The wild pokémon grew accustomed to her presence, and a few even became friends, so that when a trainer came seeking Articuno two months later, she was well warned in advance and hid.

Time passed.

She stumbled into the Masara Town hospital town the day the child needed to be born, and as single parents were hardly uncommon in this dangerous world, no one raised a fuss. She was certainly young enough to be a victim, and though it was a sad fact, keeping the child proved she had good moral character.

It made her want to laugh, inside, but she said nothing, and she named the child Red. He did have the most wonderful eyes, all bright ruby, and though his black hair reminded her of Shiba, she would work with it.

After two weekfs stay in the hospital, she returned to Seafoam. There, Red grew up, and every winter, he saw the dragon pokemon come for the ceremony – the work of the Ryuu no Meiji-sama, who would keep the world safe.

He admired her, and when he was old enough, the barriers fell. He loved her, for she was his world, and he would do anything for her.

So she told him her story, and as he listened, he felt rage, and also awe, to know that his mother was strong and powerful. She told him that she knew not what had happened to the ones she had carried, but he promised he would find them. And he would take care of the one who dared called him eSonfc

Who was not his Father!

She kissed him good-bye, and he kissed her, and he felt the power moving between them, from parent to child, and then he spread his wings and flew, for now the wings were his, dragonfs wings of silversteel metalc

They glittered as he flew, the sign of the Dragon Master – the Ryuu no Meiji-sama. And soon, he neared Sekiei Kougen, and landed.

Kanna and Kikuko met him, and he saw the recognition flare in their eyes.

gYou are Watarufs child.h Kanna said softly. gShe lives still?h

He blinked. gHowc?h

gIt was not too hard to figure out.h Kikuko laughed. gBut we are glad you are here. You will be challenging Shiba?h

He nodded.

gDo you have any pokémon?h

He laughed, and nodded, and they came at his call, Hakuryuu and Ptera and Kairyuu, Gyarados and Miniryuu, and knowledge glittered in Kikukofs eyes as she wished him well and they stepped aside.

Far be it for them to meddle in family affairs!

Shiba was very surprised when he saw the boy, but he released his pokémon, and the boy complied, and the dragons destroyed his fighting team utterly.

gYou know what, Father?h Red told him pleasantly, after the battle, when he was still in shock from his loss, gMother hates you.h

Everything had clicked then, the hair, the eyes, the dragonsc and hefd stared in disbelief, even as Red calmly slid the blade between his ribs.

gAnd I hate you too.h He crooned, before he slammed a second dagger into the manfs throat. gBecause you are worthlessch

He watched as life drained from those eyes, before he went exploring. One good Hakai Beam destroyed the manfs safe, and inside, sure enough, there were five Ultra Balls. Motherfs pokémonc

He clipped them to his belt, thanked the dragons that had come to his aid, and flew home to Seafoam, where Mother awaited him.

She kissed him, and he felt the knowledge dance in her mind along their bond, as they shared a secret smile.

            Shiba was dead.
            Long live the Dragon Master.
