In some cultures, they say that a man is not dead until he is forgotten. If such is the case, it explains why heroes never really die. Their legends will live on, and theyfll shine forever, bright examples to inspire the future.

Maybe so, but what do the heroes really think?

Charlotte really doesnft think much of it. Her duty is to live only to die, and she takes what pleasure she can from life, knowing that death is always waiting. She burns brightly, too brightly, and soon shefll fall like a falling star, but itfs all right because at least shefs happy while she lives.

She knows her death will buy time, and her dying breath forges the Sacred Shield, so it is all right.

Lance resents it. He bears the burden of memory, of life after life after life, failure and success and stagnation until his mind spins and his eyes flash blood-gold. Hefs a hero, yes, but only because he holds the Sacred Sword in his heart. If not, he would probably be cast as villain, and he doesnft care. All he really wants is Red, to love him and protect him, and if hefs lucky, his duty will match his desires. He holds the balance in his mind, the scales of Fate dangling with Destiny, and he endures.

Someday, Red will smile at him, and rememberc

Red wishes he knew what to think. Itfs so hard to remember, and he wantsc he wants Lance to be happy. He wants Lance to be safe. He hates it when Lance dies with tears in his eyes and hate in his heart, because itfs another barrier between them and even though Lance wonft yell, Red feels every loss keenly, and wishes he wouldnft have to.

Maybe one day, it will end happily ever after.

Until then, their legend passes onc and fades into obscurity.
