It’s always an interesting experience whenever he visits his in-laws, Red thinks. The décor is nice, all watery-blue and clear, perfect balance, and the rooms are fine, warmly carpeted in white shag white fluffy beds for all. But no matter what, Red still can’t shake the feeling that this is all wrong.

They have a large pool in their backyard, and swimming is fun, and dinner is always hot, fresh, and delicious, but for some reason, Red always feels a bit edgy whenever they visit Lance’s parents.

Lance loves going home, away from the hustle and bustle of League policy and the masses of trainers slavering for glory. He likes relaxing in pools of warm water and watching wild pokemon frolic.

< You still have not told him? >

He smiles at his Father’s voice. < Does it matter? >

< Well, it’s not good to hide things such as this from your mate. > His mother cut in.

< As you will… I’ll tell him after dinner tonight then. >

“Is something wrong?” Red asks.

Lance looks at him, and asks a question Red never thought he would ask.

“How much do you love me?”

Red finds that silly, and wonders if Lance is worried. He says nothing, and when Lance shimmers and transforms into a pokemon, well, it doesn’t’ really come as a shock. He pulls Lance into his arms and cuddles him, and says it doesn’t really matter.

And Lance smiles as their surroundings shift, and Red sighs in wonder at the sight of Lugia’s crystal cave.
