“I don’t understand.” Lance whispered. “Why did you do this?” Outside, men waited, armed men, equipped with enough weaponry to take out a small nation. “Why did you betray me?”

“I’m sorry.” Red replied, and his face was streaked with tears. “But it’s too dangerous, Lance! It’s…”

“This isn’t a dream, is it?” Lance asked quietly.

Red shook his head.

“I thought so.” The Dragon Master said, and then leaned forwards. Red squeaked as Lance pulled him into a kiss, before he felt pain blossoming in his side. He gasped in shock, tasting blood.

“If I must die for the good of Kanto, I’m not going alone.” The Dragon Master said, flicking the blood off the dagger with long, elegant fingers. Red slumped against him, eyes wide in shock. The army gathered outside shifted uneasily, preparing to fire, but then everything around them exploded, the underground mines going off as Lance pressed a button set into his chair.

Red screamed, but it was lost in the roar of noise. So really, he didn’t have to choose between his lover and his position.
