Red is nothing short of terrified when he learns how to drive. His hands tremble on the steering wheel, he panics and presses the accelerator instead of the break, he forgets to flash the turn signals, and he runs over Professor Oak’s entire row of rhododendron bushes going at five miles per hour.

            Professor Oak is not pleased.

His Father sighs, and says these things take time, and perhaps they should find an empty parking lot to practice in. But he doesn’t scold, and he doesn’t loom, and for that, Red is inordinately grateful.

It takes six months before he feels safe enough to drive on a road, and even then, he gets honked at for driving at the minimum speed limit. By that point though, he’s a bit more confident, and even the curves aren’t as much trouble as he feared.

Father smiles at him then, and as they cruise along one night, places a hand on him, and he arches into that touch, but never lets go of the steering wheel, not even when his fingers turn bloodless and white and he bites his lip to muffle a cry.

That is when Lance smiles at him, and tells him he’s learned well.

Y’know, this is one bone I have to pick with this community. What’s with all of those strange quotes that sound like Japanese fed through an online translator? *Sigh*

And yes, Phantomness can’t drive (yet). And yes, I did run over a bush going at five mph.
