If Red were to be totally honest, he’d say that he hated team sports. It wasn’t that he didn’t know how to work on a team – his double battles with Green and Blue were enough proof that they could work very well together indeed. He simply did not understand why people would willingly spend time running around after a baseball, especially when he won front-row tickets to the Electabuzz versus Kadabra team in Indigo Plateau.

Pokémon training was so much more interesting!

“I didn’t expect to see you here.” Lance said, as he and Lorelei glanced up from their seats. Lorelei waved at Blue, who waved back.

Red sighed. “I won free tickets, so I had to come.”

Blue smiled. She wasn’t Red’s girlfriend by any means, but free tickets were enough incentive for her to hang out with him for a few hours. They were both loaded down with refreshments from the concessions stand.

As Lorelei and Blue began to gossip, Red and Lance unanimously decided to let the two girls sit next to each other so they wouldn’t have to listen to gossip going on over their heads. Especially not after they started discussing cosmetics!

“Do you like sports?” Red asked innocently.

Lance smirked. “Of course not, but as an… ahem, sponsor from the League, I have to be present.”

            “Ohh…”

“You’re lucky you’re Champion and always off traveling, otherwise you’d be stuck advertising too.” Lance grinned.

“Popcorn?” Red asked, offering the tub.

            “Sure.”

They sat there, munching on popcorn, and watched as the Kadabras soundly clubbed the Electabuzzes. Red wasn’t really interested one way or another, though Lance had to restrain him from throwing popcorn at the cheerleaders during halftime when their routines got a bit too obscene.

“You know,” Lance, whispered in his ear, “That’s quite childish of you.”

“Do you think I care?” Red hissed back. “The media thinks of me as a child anyway.”

“I cannot fault that.” Lance’s voice dropped before he switched to telepathy. < Do they disgust you so? >

< Of course! > The reply was earnest, eager. < They’re like pieces of meat in the shop front. >

            Lance hid a chuckle. < I see. >

            < Aren’t you jealous, though? >

< And why would I be jealous? Unless you’re telling me you enjoyed the show they put on? >

            < Of course not! >

The show over, Lance teleported them back. Blue and Lorelei were still chattering about cosmetics, so Red and Lance left them alone.

            “Then why are you unhappy?”

            “I…I don’t know.”

“Maybe I can…. Cheer you up.” Lance suggested, and Red eeped as the Dragon Master pounced.

            “Good idea…”

Red: Implied relationship again

Phantomness: Hai! So much simpler that way!
