The Headmaster isn’t anything like what he expected.

Red sits on one side of the desk, carved out of sturdy oak with a delicate design that reminds him of flying dragons. He expected some wrinkled old man with white hair, or a roaring sailor with shaggy black hair and a whip in hand.

This strange spirit with long red hair and bright golden eyes, who pours tea for them both and then flicks his fingers, lighting all the candles in the room without using matches, frightens him a little.

“So,” Lance says quietly, watching with amusement as Red tips four cubes of sugar into the cup, taking a sip of his own tea, which is black, undiluted, “Do you know why you are here?”

“Because I broke the greenhouse window while we were playing catch.” Red answers, too quickly for his liking.

Lance hands over a plate of biscuits, and watches as Red eats one, all crisp pastry filled with strawberry jam, and licks his lips.

            Pretty.

            “And how did that happen?”

Red shrugs. “Ben threw the ball at me. I thought it was going too fast so I ducked instead of trying to catch it.”

“Wise of you, certainly.” Lance muses. “Windows may be repaired, but broken bones take more time. I have another question though. If Ben was the one who threw the ball, why did you tell Professor James that you broke the window?”

            Red flushed. “I… he…”

“Ben’s older than you, isn’t he? Bigger too, I shouldn’t wonder.”

Red nods, sensing that the Headmaster understands what it’s like to be one of the smaller, younger boys, even though he can’t imagine how or why.

            “Have another one.”

So while Red finishes off another two biscuits, Lance makes a quick phone call, and a bit of probing makes it all too evident what really happened. The greenhouse has eyes, after all, and it knows who hurt it.

So a few minutes later, Professor Drake drags Ben up, and he confesses, and Red gets off quite scot-free.

Ben, on the other hand, doesn’t get expelled, or whipped, but he does get fined quite a bit, and his parents are quite displeased.

Well, it serves him quite right.

Red wonders though, why Headmaster Lance has done this. But as he leaves, he sees the Headmaster staring off into the distance, and something prompts him to come back and give him a hug, even though it is strictly against school policy.

Lance just ruffles his hair. “Take care of yourself now, all right?”

And Red promises, even though he feels that something has been left unsaid.

Man, I love Wikipedia. You can find so much information there! And I had no idea so many people corrupted ships off championshipping! I mean, first there was Neochampionshipping, and I made Almostchampionshipping for Ash x Karen, and when I checked Bulbagarden.net today, good lord! *Faints*

But anyways, what I really went on Wikipedia for was Black Tea… I find it odd how every themes list LJ Community I have been on has at least one theme relating to tea, whether it be green, black, or unsweetened.
