Red stared at the Dragonair. It stared placidly back at him, large, limpid blue eyes calm and untroubled. Her rider jumped off, brushing imaginary dust off his black leathers. Catching sight of his audience, he sank down to his knees. “My Prince.”

“Lance, you don’t have to bow.” Red pulled his Father’s General up. “What news from the Western Front?”

“Absolute victory, my Prince.” Lance smiled.

Red kissed him then, and the General blinked, surprised, his golden eyes a-glitter as they glimpsed the depth of love in ruby.

            “I missed you…”

            “I missed you too…”

King Giovanni was quite pleased to hear the news, and as the wine had loosened his tongue, he promised his General anything up to and including half his kingdom as his reward – a kingdom that was now greatly expanded, thanks to the series of victories that let Johto territory belong to Kanto once more.

Lance declined all offers of gold and jewels, and smiled.

Red did too, as Lance swept a low bow.

“I ask for Prince Red’s hand in marriage.”

Stunned silence invaded the hall, but only for the space of a second. Giovanni simply laughed. “As you wish, though you may find he is ill-suited to be your partner.”

“Thank you for this boon, my Liege.”

Lance swept Red up into a kiss, and the hall exploded in applause.

“Don’t you regret it though?” Red asked, as Lance steered him towards his quarters, his hand already slipping into the Prince’s trousers. He gasped suddenly, as Lance pinned him against the wall.

“No. You are far more precious than mere metal.”

“I suppose…” Red’s golden circlet slipped off his head and fell to the floor with a clatter as Lance kissed him again. He decided not to argue the merits of his lover’s choice. After all, there were much more pleasant matters to ponder…
