“Are you frightened?” Lance asked, as he and Red glanced around New York City. “It is all right if you feel frightened. After all, there are no pokémon here.”

Red nodded, frowning. The sun was beginning to set, and their poke balls were hidden inside their jackets. “It’s not that, Lance. I heard the rumors about night demons.”

            “Ahh…”

They walked through the streets, faster. They had reservations at one of the hotels nearby, and better not – what was that?

A dark shape swooped overheads. They narrowed their eyes, and nodded as one. Lance’s features shifted, as he and Red stepped into the dark alley. Cloak bleached to white, then silver, became sharp-edged silversteel, fingers curved into sharp claws, fangs elongated slightly….

Red nodded and Lance finished, the transformation complete. The dragon and his passenger soared into the air, tracking, tracing…

Hudson frowned as he watched them approach the tower. There was something that did not look gargoyle, but it did not seem like a flying machine either…

The boy landed and stared at him. “Pokemon? Here?”

“A Dragon?” Was his reply, glancing at the mythical beast the boy was riding. The dragon seemed to huff, before curling around the boy protectively.

Red stroked Lance’s head as he stared. No, it didn’t seem like a pokemon… besides, it could talk! “Hello?”

“Hello, lad.” Hudson smiled; the boy didn’t seem to be dangerous. “What are ye doing here?”

“Ah… I followed you home.” Red said sheepishly. “I’m sorry. I thought you were a pokémon.”

            “A… what?”

            “A pocket monster.”

Hudson raised his eyebrows at that, but said no more. What kind of creature was a pocket monster? Surely there were no such things….

Red produced chocolate bars from his backpack, offered one to the strange creature, and glanced around the room they were in. It was fairly small, but did have a few bookcases and a television and a comfy chair.

Hudson accepted the chocolate as a peace offering of sorts, and sat down. “Well, lad. Ye look like ye have traveled quite a bit. How about a story?”

A story? He could do that… and before he knew it, Red was spilling out tales of his adventures, while the not-pokemon listened in fascination, occasionally giving an almost-disbelieving look at a point in the tale.

It was nearing dawn when Red finally noticed that they had completely missed the meeting they were supposed to go to. Lance growled softly, and Red nodded.

“I’ll see you later than, Hudson.” He climbed on Lance’s back and they flew off. Not moments later, only stone was left.

The other gargoyles had been surprised at the appearance of this human visitor, but he had seemed decent enough… and his tales were fascinating. He seemed almost like a bard of old.

“I’m sorry, Lance.” Red told him. “But…”

“I don’t mind that I was in dragon form all night. It’s comfortable.” The Dragon Master growled. “But we completely missed the meeting… or we would have…”

Red blinked. Then he smiled, recognizing the card in Lance’s hand. Return…

            “You owe me.”

“I wish I could have said goodbye. They seemed interesting.”

Lance shook his head. “Better that we don’t. They’re dangerous, Red… though not to us, except as potential…”

            “I see.”

The next night, he did not return. They wondered for a little, and then dismissed it as a chance occurrence. As for Red and Lance, they returned to Kanto, and told none of their discovery. It was too dangerous… for if there was a potential link between humans and pokemon, and if Rocket or Magma or Aqua, or any other team, got their hands on it… it would be dangerous.

End Fic

Yeah, Lance isn’t human… though whether he’s half-pokemon or something else entirely, well, who knows? I don’t like normal people much I guess, and fanfic is fun! Heh, no romance whatsoever! Tis G rated for that reason…
