Red adjusted his kimono as he waited for the other Elite to pick him up. Lorelei looked absolutely stunning in her light blue yukata patterned with snowflakes, while Bruno just grunted, having been forced to abandon his gi for something more formal. Lance and Agatha had not yet arrived, but Red was sure they would be here soon.

The missing two appeared a moment later. Agatha garbed demurely in a purple so dark it was almost black, and Lance in a strange dappled green that was almost silvery. Red goggled for a moment.

Lance reached over and ruffled his hair. “Surprised?”

            “You look… different?”

Lance had let his hair down too, and he was wearing contacts to make his golden eyes brown. He shrugged.

“If I want to go to a festival, I would rather not have fangirls mobbing me.”

            “Point taken.”

“Here.” Red blinked as Lance quickly braided his unruly long hair into a single braid, and fastened it off with a strip of red ribbon. “It’s different enough, and if you wear sunglasses, no one will be able to see your eyes.”

That sounded like good advice, and everything would be brightly lit with lanterns, so he pulled out a pair of sunglasses and slipped them on, hiding his abnormal crimson eyes from view.

They stepped out into the crowded streets, and true enough, no one recognized them. For a while, the two of them simply strolled together, trying their hands at the midway games – Lance was absolutely brutal at the dart booth, and won Red a giant stuffed Dratini, despite his protests, and Red found that he was quite good at catching goldfish. Now, he watched two, one silvery-gray and one golden-orange, swim around in a small bowl.

            He smiled.

Lance offered him a stick of takoyaki, and he accepted. They found a convenient park bench to sit down upon, and watched little children run past in their geta, tripping and falling every so often.

“It’s so peaceful.” Red remarked between bites.

“It almost seems like a different world tonight.” Lance agreed. A balloon seller passed by, and Red bought a Pikachu-shaped balloon on a whim. He handed it to Lance, who took it with a surprised look.

“Come on, Lance, you won me a stuffed Dratini.”

“If you say so.” Lance eyed the balloon dubiously. He was not all that fond of bloated electric rats, but if it made Red happy... “Do you want to go see the divination pool? It might be quieter there.”

“Sounds good.” Red followed him as they walked down a few roads and reached a shrine. Behind, a calm pool of water glittered. The moon was full tonight, and it bathed the area in silvery radiance.

It was quieter here, though they could still hear the sound of festivities in the distance. Lance seemed to want to say something, so Red waited patiently. It was… kind of romantic, almost, and he must have said that out loud, because Lance shot him a startled look and agreed.

            But… but…

He was on his tiptoes before he knew it, and Lance’s expression of shock as he kissed him was priceless. Lance didn’t seem particularly angry either, as he kissed back a second later.

The moon glittered on the hair of two Champions as they embraced, and kept their secret.
