“I wish you could stay with me during the day.” Red pouted, as he felt Lance stirring in the early moments before dawn. His lover shot him an injured look as he reached for his sunblock lotion.

“Too suspicious, Red. You know that.”

“But I’m hungry…” He whined. “And we haven’t been hunting in ages…”

“We’re not supposed to hunt during the day,” Lance shook his head. “And you know that it’s not safe unless it’s cloudy out.”

“You could make it cloudy.” Red suggested. Lance blinked for a moment, before he laughed.

“You’ve got me there. I’m sure Hakuryuu wouldn’t mind conjuring up some morning mist.”

No, Lance could not die from sun and flame because of dragon’s blood, but he could still wind up with pretty nasty sunburns that hurt and took days to heal. Red nuzzled his fangs into his lover’s neck as he purred.

“Hush.” Lance told him, and began pulling on his clothing. “It is still early out. Let’s go.”

They found prey in the form of two homeless men, and it was so easy to lure them to sleep and then drain them of their blood. It didn’t taste as good, but they were not feeling particularly choosy at the moment. The strange heat wave that was sweeping over Kanto was cause for significant alarm, for even at night it was too hot to hunt. So now, on the first cool day, they were taking full advantage.

Afterwards, they returned to their apartment, quiet.

“Are you disappointed I can only come at night?”

Red considered. Was he? A little, but… he would be worse off had he never met Lance at all. Besides, did it really matter? He was changed too, and now they would have eternity together.

            “No.”
