Red studied the glass of wine in hand, before he threw it across the room, shattering delicate crystal into a million pieces.

A servant girl quickly scurried in, trembling as she swept up the shattered glass. Red paid her no attention, and did not acknowledge her presence. He impatiently counted down the hours until twelve midnight, for the situation was dire.

At precisely twelve midnight, a form shimmered into being. It resolved quickly into a kneeling man in black armor trimmed with bloody red. In his hands, he held a long staff of black wood, the top of which curved into a crescent moon of highly polished silversteel.

“My Lord?” The kneeling man asked softly.

Red sighed. “Rise, Lance.” The Magician did so, and the Prince stepped aside and showed him a to a lower seat.

They watched the flames crackling merrily in their limestone fireplace for a few moments, before Red nodded. “I need you to do something for me.”

“Of course, my Prince.” Lance agreed. He was loyal, almost blindingly loyal, and Red’s heart ached at the thought of what had to be done, but to save a dying country, much could be sacrificed.

“Spend this night with me.” Red whispered. “For tomorrow brings naught but death.”

Lance’s breath caught. “You wish for me to invoke …”

            “Yes.”

Lance sighed, a long, slow sigh, and then he stepped across the room, gliding elegance, until the Prince was in his arms. “I will.”

And that was the way Red liked it.

They drank wine together that night, rich red wine so dark it was almost blood, because they would need it come morning when the blood drained away. And his Magician cried out underneath him as they made love one last time, and as the dawn rose, the last of the blood drained from their bodies and the whole kingdom exploded in whirlwind flames.

And the army from Johto never crossed their border.

Yeah… it kind of changed in the middle… oh well. It was kind of fluff?

Lance: *Shakes head* you like killing off characters way too much

Phantomness: I’m tired and need amusement!
