“It’s been so long,” Red breathed, as they watched the sunset. The years had not been kind, Kanto and Johto wracked with civil war and strife, finally they had resorted to using nuclear weapons, and the cities had been so quickly disintegrated. The few brave and loyal had hidden in domes, filters blocking out radiation, as they sealed themselves in containment tubes set to open every fifty years for a glimpse of life, while in their absence, the machines whirred softly, keeping them alive and healthy.

Lance nodded. It had been ages and ages – if they were still counting years, well, who knew? But Chosen dreamed while they were in stasis, and in the Dream Realm he and Red had been free to live and love, with all the other lesser Masters and Guardians.

“I still love you.”

“It’s been years and years… but I love you too.”

“Is what we have eternal love then?” Red asked. “It’s so strange, because usually we die so early…”

“I believe it is. Did you doubt?” Lance looked into Red’s eyes, but found them clear and shining.

“I trust you. You would never cheat on me.” Red grinned, before he hooked a leg around Lance’s and tripped him, letting them fall to the ground with him on top. He kissed the surprised Dragon Master, smiling contently.

Together forever…

He rather liked the sound of that.
