The crash reverberated throughout the entire Plateau, and all, with the exception of President Goodman, winced at the sound.

The man stood firm. “You know the rules, Lance.”

The Champion hissed angrily, golden eyes dilating to bloody red as he clutched Red to his chest. “I am not letting him go.”

Red smiled innocently at President Goodman, completely unaware of the conflict breaking over his head. He was still wrapped in the calm half-sleep of Hypnosis after all, and until this was over, Lance did not wish to wake him.

“He’s been Champion for a year.”

“He’s the best damn Champion we’ve ever had!”

“Well, no one may be Champion for more than a year. The rules are set. I don’t know why you developed an attachment to him, but his time is up and it’s time for him to exit the program.”

“I. Don’t. Think. So.” The Dragon Master grated out, every word punctuated by a step forwards. Goodman laughed, but that was when Lance stabbed the letter opener hidden up his sleeve into his throat.

He watched contemptuously as the man fell. The pokemon world was more than a game, and he was sick of playing by Goodman’s rules.

He kissed Red then, feeling him stir as his eyes opened. Crimson met gold as Red grinned.

            “Is it over?”

“Yes. No one will ever take you away now.” Lance promised.

Red half-smiled and kissed the Dragon Master, elated, and Lance smirked.

End Fic

Completed 12/11/06

I was inspired by ‘Dark Lord of Derkholm’, under the premise that the pokemon world is used for ‘games’, where one trainer can sign up for a year’s worth, and go through the gyms, fighting TR, beat the Elite Four and become Champion, just like the old RBY versions…

I really don’t want to take final exams. Grr.
