She holds the Secret Potion in her hands, almost trembling with joy. The boy grins at her, black hair still wet from surfing all the way here from Cianwood City. He’s dripping salt water all over the paving stones, but Jasmine doesn’t care.

She clings to Red tightly. “Thank you!”

He flushes, completely discombobulated, but doesn’t push her away.

She can’t believe he made it. Now Amphy will be all right!

Jasmine gives her Ampharos the medicine, and Amphy perks up immediately, wagging her tail.

“Thank you so much, Red.”

“It’s nothing, Jasmine.” He says cheerfully.

“I can battle you for a badge now, Red.” She sighs in relief, glad that her pokemon is all right. “Follow me back to the Gym, please?”

“Okay!”

The battle is quick – Red has a strong Quilava, and her Magnemites fall quickly. Then he pulls out a Pidgeotto, but her Steelix makes quick work of it. One good Iron Tail sends the bird into dreamland.

Bye-bye, Birdie!

She sees his eyes widen as he sucks in a breath, and represses a giggle.

They’re always so surprised when they see Steelix! But Steelix is a strong Pokemon, and she relies on him to win most of the time.

Her poor Magnemites are just too weak.

Red reaches for his next Poke Ball, and releases a Bellsprout.

She almost feels bad when its Vine Whip attack glances off Steelix’s metal body. Steelix tackles the plant, nearly burying it into the ground with the force of his blow.

He growls.

Jasmine nods happily.

Red swallows hard, before reaching for his last Poke Ball. Lapras takes to the field, trilling.

Ice is weak to Steel, but if it gets a water attack in…

Jasmine orders another Iron Tail, but this time, it misses.

“Lapras! Surf!”

A wall of water rises from the surfing Pokemon, and Jasmine winces as her Steelix flounders under the sheer volume.

She recalls him with a wry expression.

“That’s enough, Red.” She walks down from the dais, unpins the Mineral Badge from her dress and hands it to him.

The Trainer beams in response. “Thank you!”

Jasmine pecks him on the cheek. “I’m sure you’re a good Trainer, Red, and will keep on being one.”

“Really,” He looks at her, amazed.

“Really,” She says. “Come visit me after you become Champion, all right?”

“Okay!” Red hugs her again, and runs off to the Pokemon Center.

Jasmine smiles as he runs off. He is cute, too…
