Ash knows that he’s forgetful. He remembers only important things, like which attacks his pokémon know and where to head to get the next badge. He’ll forget what a pokémon is days after he saw it, but that’s’ all right because he’s got the new and upgraded pokédex from Oak and it never fails him. Sometimes, though, he wonders if he might be smarter if he didn’t use it so much, but it’s not something he thinks about a lot. He has better things to do after all, like try to be a Pokemon Master!

But the one date he doesn’t forget is his mom’s birthday, which is a good thing, because Delia is lonely and it’s nice to receive a letter and know that she hasn’t been forgotten at home, all alone. It gives her comfort, and she’s glad that Ash is still out fulfilling his dream.

She just wishes he would come home more often... but she doesn’t like to dwell on that, and she’s glad he comes home at all, unlike his father and grandfather, who just…forgot.
