The smile he gives her cuts her to the quick, and she shivers, even though he hasn’t said anything yet – he does not need to. One glance is all it takes to see that she no longer is important. Of course, she can tell that already, by the way Sabrina is leaning over his shoulder, a possessive look in her dark eyes, sensual and sleek in crimson and black.

“It’s not really your fault, Misty.” Ash says, trying to soften the blow, but his eyes belie the truth. “It’s just that I found someone else.”

“Why?” She asks. “I’ve loved you for ages, Ash!”

< You have a peculiar way of showing it. > Sabrina says coldly. < One would conclude from all your verbal and physical abuse that you were barely friends. >

“Shut up! I’m not talking to you!”

“You shouldn’t be so mean to my girlfriend, Misty.” Ash says quietly.

< After all… > Sabrina smirks, as her eyes flare red and psychic power gathers around her, a hint of an incoming storm, < I could always claim a relapse. >

Misty shudders. “What has she done to you, Ash? You’re so different!”

“It is rather nice to be accepted and loved for not being perfect.” Ash smiles.

Sabrina nods, and then pulls him into a kiss, and Misty watches, horrified.

How… how dare he!

< I’m older and prettier than you are. > Sabrina sends, and Misty flushes angrily. Of course, Sabrina is more beautiful, but…

“Sabrina’s nice.” Ash smiles like an idiot, and Misty wants to slap some sense into him, but she can’t.

The spell she has over him now is strong, and the water trainer has no idea how to break it, so she runs away and cries bitter tears.

Ash does not notice, and the ice surrounding his heart gets a wee bit thicker. Sabrina notices this, but as long as he keeps loving her, it’s all right.
