Lance is laughing and Red wishes she would stop. His lover is standing there, sword in hand, sharp-edged steel liberally coated with blood. It’s running down her face and staining the white – white – robes she chose to wear today, and Red doesn’t know why since Lance always wears black, but there must be something special and it’s giving him a headache.

He steps up to her, places his hand in the crook of Lance’s elbow, leads her away from the gutted remains of what were once a proud military force, foolish enough to try and secede from Johto. Lance finally looks at him, and seems to focus, and then her hands are on his shoulders and Red gasps as she kisses him, like she’s been dying to do this for years, and presses a knee between his thighs.

Red doesn’t fight this, simply leans back against the boulder, his eyes pooling ruby, as Lance trails runny claret down his form and they move together and break apart and he screams somewhere in the middle as pleasure-pain crashes over his head but he doesn’t care, and as he feels her warmth flood him inside as he laughs, matching his wife’s madness.

There are brown streaks drying to flakes on both of them when the reinforcements finally arrive, and he can hear the gasps from the new soldiers, just drafted, but then Lorelei smirks and salutes him, and they begin the task of burning the corpses, and afterwards, when the dark smoke and fire are over, a heavy rain falls and drenches them both.

            And they laugh.
