She feels drained and dry, an empty husk with all the juices sucked out. Butter spread too thin over a large piece of bread. She’s tried to cope with it – her shelf is covered with self-help books, she’s taken up knitting, and her ghost pokemon croon to try and cheer her up, but when it all boils down, she’s finished.

Samuel is off gallivanting all the time, working on his marvelous pokédex. She hates the thing, hates how it’s taken her husband away from her. What’s so great about a Pokemon encyclopedia anyway?

Their marriage has been stretched and now, it can’t go back to the way it was anymore. If it were a rubber band, it would have snapped by now.

She hasn’t missed the way that black-haired skank, barely out of college, is eying him either, always bending over in those tight pink low-riding leathers.

Agatha frowns, as she surveys her reflection. Her skin is wrinkled and pasty, and there are liver spots on her hands. She’s shrunken and small, and leans heavily on a blackthorn cane.

Samuel, on the other hand, has aged well, and barely looks forty. He has an adoring fan club, and even allows it when they storm the house on Valentine’s Day and Christmas.

The old woman scowls, and picks up her cane. Perhaps it’s time to try out for the Elite Four position that nice young man Lance asked her about…

            And put Samuel behind her.
