Brock does not know why love is so complicated. People can be so thick-headed – take Ash and Misty for example. Obviously, they are going to grow up and fall in love. He just wishes they were more mature so they could accept the fact that maybe the like each other as friends, instead of bickering all the time. He and Pikachu are both sick and tired of it, and having Togepi around seems to add fuel to the fire.

He can understand why Ash is angry. Ash is the Trainer that found the mysterious egg, after his misadventures at Grandpa Canyon, and he did win their tournament for it, but Togepi saw Misty first and imprinted on her as his mother. That’s that. There is no changing it. It is just another example of how life is unfair.

Oh, he has no doubt the boy will get over it, but until then, every day is a reminder of his failure. Misty carries Togepi around in her arms like a trophy, not even having the decency to put it in a Poke Ball. Yes, it is a baby Pokemon, but surely…

Well, he had better stop thinking about it, before he starts siding with one friend instead of the other. All he can do is continue acting like an older brother, and hope things will work out for the best.

And maybe, one day, he’ll attend their wedding with a smile.
