            “Lance?”

“What is it?” The Dragon Master asked irritably. Bruno visibly flinched as he coughed.

            “Agatha and Lorelei have returned.”

“Ah.” Lance stood, cape rustling behind her as she walked to the mouth of the cavern, where the female ‘half’ of the Elite Four waited. Her eyes narrowed when she realized that they were not alone. Well, this was an unexpected course of events.

Red ran across the floor and flung himself into the Viridian Trainer’s arms, almost sending them both to the ground. As it was, Lance barely managed to keep her balance.

Bruno goggled at the sight. What was going on?

            “You’re so mean.” Red muttered.

“I take this to mean that my memory manipulation failed.”

“Well, it’s lucky we didn’t freeze him.” Lorelei chuckled. “Besides, the necklace was a dead giveaway.”

What were they talking about, what necklace?

In response, Red grinned and pulled out a thin steel chain with a silver dragon pendant on it. Lance narrowed her eyes.

            “So that’s where it went…”

“Sorry, love, but I won’t let you control me. I control myself, and you… well, I’ll always love you, but I… I want to protect you too. It goes both ways, Lance!”

“I suppose it does.” She slowly smirked. “I take this to mean you’re joining our cause?”

Red grinned and nodded, as Bruno’s jaw dropped.

People who believe they are largely in control of their life have an internal locus of control. Those who believe they are controlled mostly by external forces have an external locus of control. (Introductory Psychology, 7th edition by James Kalat)
