Red took a deep breath as he returned to his – their – bedroom. To his surprise, Lance was waiting for him.

That was certainly different, but perhaps it was the prelude to a good-bye. He steeled himself and looked at the other trainer. What would it be this time? Tears were doubtful, for the Dragon Master did not – or perhaps could not – cry, though there were exceptions.

Maybe those golden eyes would look at him coldly, and he would feel the crushing weight of disappointment. Or there could be no words at all, Lance would kiss him on the forehead and that would be the only good-bye he would get.

Sweat misted on his palms. * What will happen now? *

“Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you.” His wife stated. * Darling, whatever brought this on? *

She wished she knew, so she could fix it.

“What?” Of all the reactions Red had expected, that was not it.

“It’s not vanity – variety, or wanting multiple partners,” Lance ticked off on her fingers. “It’s not out of a desire to hurt me, because I know you better than that. I doubt it’s because your one-night-stand is better in bed, as it takes one to know one, Champion. That leaves testing.”

“Testing?” He squeaked, now quite uncomfortable. * Does she know? *

“Again, I do not think you would find a random man off the street and engage in intercourse with him just to see if I would throw a fit over it, so that’s out.” The redhead continued. “What does that leave?”

Red refused to answer, not wanting to give himself away.

“Do you know why I wanted your virginity?”

“No,” He blinked, confused at the sudden change in topics. He had not minded giving himself to his idol, not at all. After all, it might be selfish, but he wanted someone he could trust, someone who could take care of him, and someone who was someone important, by hard work and not inherited riches.

Besides, they had rings and a certificate so everything was proper.

“A slut belongs to no one,” Lance said. “It’s true. If a woman or a man sleeps around with multiple partners, they are faithful to none.”

“Well, yes…” Where was this going?

“On the other hand, in a monogamous relationship, you have faith in the other person. Its belief, and assurance, and everything that you need when you engage in risky sexual behaviors like BDSM.”

            He nodded.

“Even the past can catch up to you,” She closed her eyes. “People who partied wild, well, it’s hard for me to imagine them settling down with only one partner for the rest of their lives, and the baggage that comes with it – what a wreck.”

            Well, he hadn’t done that!

“If someone cheats on me, I no longer feel that I can trust them, and especially not with my body, much less my heart.”

“Okay,” Red took a deep breath. * Is she going to break up with me now? Or is it divorce? *

Please, no! He did not think he could take that.

She was the only person he loved, really…

“Now that we’ve gotten that straight,” Lance pinned Red with a glare. “You can stop pretending.”

He goggled. “What do you mean?”

“I mean,” The Leader purred, “That I know you didn’t sleep with your Ditto, no matter how many times he went out in disguise with you.”

Red’s face matched his hair. “Oh…”

Yes, well, he had wanted to check. But destroying his relationship with the other Champion was completely wrong! He had just been kind of wary. It had been a good solution, and if Lance had not guessed he would have admitted it.

“Lance-chan,” He hugged his lover tightly. “Are you mad?”

“Perhaps a little,” Lance admitted. “I can understand why you did it, though.”

“I’m sorry! I just…” It sounded so childish now. “I just didn’t want you to throw a fit or anything. I don’t want to cheat, but I was worried!”

“Well, I didn’t. Theatrics are all well and good, but if I know the script, why bother?” She replied.

            Red sniffled. “I love you.”

“Shhh,” His Master rocked him. “Don’t be frightened. I’m here. I won’t leave you unless you want me to.”

            “Okay,” He whispered. * I won’t. *

Because he never, ever wanted her to leave!

Maybe she had been a bit too possessive lately. She would have to work on that. However, she was not letting him leave.

            Divorce was a last resort.

No, he was her husband, and by extension hers forever, if she had her way. She cuddled him as he quietly cried into her front, just a little bit scared.

            “I’m here.” She soothed.

“Lance-chan,” Red gazed at her. “Don’t leave me?”

            The redhead nodded. “I won’t. I promise.”

“Okay,” He relaxed, and closed his eyes. He was finally safe again.

…Because at some point, Red might get tired of Lance’s tendencies. I hope not!

The fanon is implied, but it doesn’t need to fit.

Red: Oh, now I’m the suspicious one?

Phantomness: Equal opportunities, dear. I’m rather adamant about that.

Lance: *Laughs* Yes, I suppose…
