The psychiatrist who dispenses his medicines is perky and cheerful, with a sunny smile and bobbed pink hair. Every time he sees her, Red wants to break something over her head, like a Scyther’s blade, but he always smiles and nods and pretends to be happy when he leaves, because otherwise, they’ll send him to someone else.

Besides, he’s not depressed, not really, though it has more to do with Lance than with any medications.

To be happy, one needs human company. Lance is very good company.

Of course, their relationship happens to revolve around battling and sleeping together, but it’s a lot better than nothing, and he thinks that underneath it all, Lance really does care for him.

            That’s nice to know.

It’s almost normal, being with Lance, who doesn’t stick him on a pedestal and expect him to save the world, or stare at him with an adoring fangirl’s eyes.

It’s really the pressure of responsibility that really drives Red crazy. He likes battling and training and taking care of pokémon, but when he loses all privacy and crazy fans try to sneak into his bed, it gets a little unnerving. That’s why they medicated him. He’s really not depressed at all!

He flushes the pills down the toilet now that he doesn’t need them any more, and he is happy.

He just wishes he were normal.

Lance laughs and mentions that normalcy is overrated, and as Red kisses him, he has to agree.

People who are too cheerful are creepy though, and he’s glad he’s not like that.

He’s just himself, and he likes that best of all.
