Strange creatures prowl the streets at night. Even the bravest souls stay firmly ensconced in their dwellings, fearful of the terrors that stalk the night.

Red watches from his window, waiting for the moon to rise. He’s braver than most, but then again, he has his pokémon to protect him form the dangers out there, and they’re strong, powerful pokemon, unlike a Junior trainer’s Rattata or a Lass’s Jigglypuff.

“Come on, Red.” A voice sounds outside his window, along with a faint wing beat. “The others are already waiting.”

Red smiles, and sees Lance waiting for him, batwings folded neatly against his back. He looks pretty, his horns are curved neatly over his forehead, and the dark silk he wears brings out the piercing gold color of his eyes.

This is the reason the Elite and Gym Leaders never age.

“I’m coming.” He calls, and takes off his shirt, feeling the change. The wings grow from his shoulder blades, though his wings have a reddish tint to their dark color. His twin horns sprout out of his forehead also, as his fingers taper, growing short claws of white ivory. He flashes a fanged smile at his mate.

“Impatient tonight, aren’t you, love?”

“Only a little.” Lance grins.

“I’m not as used to the change as you are. It takes longer to build up energy.”

Lance nods, and kisses Red, before they link clawed hands and fly off together.

Somewhere in the distance, a clock strikes midnight.
