He felt drunk on victory as Lance’s Dragonite gave a final bellow and collapsed bonelessly onto the sandy floor below. The Dragon Master recalled his pokémon with an almost surprised expression.

“Well, Red, it seems that you have defeated me. You shall now be the new Champion of the Indigo League.”

Flashbulbs popped, confetti and champagne filled the air, as Red cheered, hugging his pokémon tightly.

That night, he cuddled up against Lance’s chest as they sat in a pile of fluffy pillows, sipping hot chocolate from a mug and beaming.

“I did it.”

“Yes you did.” Lance tousled Red’s hair with a smile. “You’ve fulfilled your dream, Red. How do you feel?”

“Wonderful.” Red grinned. “But the best part is now you’re here to share it with me, and I’m finally worthy of you, ne?”

Lance chuckled, even as Red tilted his head up, pursing his lips.

He obliged with a kiss.
