Chapter 8

The ninth Mount Battle trainer was dressed in gray with a mask covering her eyes. He recognized the clothing style.

So Team Snagem did have a presence here…

Duskull and Houndour? Easy enough… a ghost and a dark… then to face them, he’d use a dark and… ah, Houndour’s part fire, isn’t it?

Sneasal took out Duskull readily enough, Cloyster the Houndour… and then a Geodude and Vibrava replaced them…

            Ice beam. Surf. Done.

Finally, at the top – a giant hulking man threatening someone else – oh dear, he had broken the other man’s legs, considering the angles and the blood. The other man must be the real leader of Mount Battle…

Pity. He waited for them to notice his presence, but pricked his ears up at something. There was a Time Flute that could summon Serebii? How useful…

Finally, he got irritated – he was supposed to be patient, but the man might die if he didn’t do anything, and he didn’t seem to be a bad trainer… and Thunderwave hit the giant in the back and he toppled off the platform, falling hundreds of feet to land with a *splat* on the concrete below.

He used Amnesia on the man with the Time Flute, stole the Time Flute, and was out of Mount Battle before anything else happened.

            < Child! >

            < Yes Father? >

            < Check the fallen one’s poke balls…>

            < Very well, father. >

How expeditious. Entei… he healed he fire hound with the Wand of the Water Guardian, accepted the Legendary’s thanks, and watched as he ran back to Johto.

No wonder the balance was off… perhaps Suicune and Articuno had been captured, and that was why he was feeling so weak? It would explain a lot.

Yes, that would explain a lot…

He stopped as he spotted a file lying on the ground. So Serebii could heal shadow pokemon by reverting their memories to times past… perhaps the Return card would work as well then? It would take less energy, in any case…

            He’d try it… later.

Two months passed – Team Snagem – he had one hideout left to check, but the others were cleared – he’d destroyed their hideouts, blown them to bits, nothing could be salvaged…

            They deserved it.

The Shadow pokemon were healed – with Return, with the Wand, with Serebii’s help, and sent home to Kanto and Johto and Houen, but…

One thing ticked in his mind. He still hadn’t run across Ashline’s Drowzee…

Hmm…  that could be a problem… he really thought that…. Well, it wasn’t as if he missed her. Between the Silph Scope and a quick test, he could tell. And if it every got confusing, he could ask his cards…

            It was easy.

That left… three more, before he met Honou himself. Raikou. Suicune. Togetic… yes… he could wait…

Suicune was his guardian…and that would explain his fatigue. He was still tired, he was tired, he was…. Tired…

            < Lance… >

            “Hakuryuu?”

< Please, sleep… you’re burning out. You don’t want to flame again, do you? >

            “No…”

            < Lance. >

The guardian’s eyes closed as he fell asleep…

< Child, child… you’ll die if this continues. Even with the Wand. >

            < Father… I’m tired… >

            < Shh… I know, but you must save the last three… the legendaries… >

< How did they get captured? >

            < Traitors. >

            Lance’s eyes widened. < … Who would dare…? >

            < I do not know… >

< Would this be another one of Serebii’s games, Father? >

            < Perhaps… >

< I… I haven’t used the Time Flute yet. Should I play it and demand an explanation? I can, you know… >

< Wait. Wait until you save the last two. Then we ask. >

            Suicune… my guardian… come to me…

            < Let me heal you… >

The Wand of the Water Guardian worked exceptionally well on the water cat, but of course, that was to be expected…

Suicune shook herself. < Guardian! >

            < I’m glad you’re fine… > Lance whispered. < Come home to Johto now… >

The cat smiled, licked Lance’s cheek, and then ran off… in seconds, she was back in Johto, as was meant to be…

            That left Raikou…

He was climbing up to the roof of the Team Snagem hideout when he spotted a familiar face down below, battling a Snagem Grunt. How interesting…

It looked like Ashline had gotten somewhat better – she had evolved her Pikachu into Raichu, and she had managed to capture a Shadow Haunter, mostly by luck really…

He smiled. Not bad… but if she wanted to take on Team Snagem, it would be difficult… quite difficult…

            “Give me back my Drowzee!”

The Team Leader, Gordo, blinked. “Who are you and how did you get in here? No matter. Tyranitar, go!”

Ashline flinched back. Raichu huddled behind her. “Butterfree, Pidgeotto-.” She was cut off as a vicious Sandstorm attack sent her and Raichu flying back against the wall.

“Kids these days. Idiots.” Gordo harrumphed. “Hmm, quite pretty too…” He walked over to her, dispelling the Sandstorm…

His window shattered inwards just at that moment, and he got hit with a face full of glass shards, even before he noticed that his Tyranitar was gone!

            Lance smirked.
