Bizarre…

Chapter 6

Ash yawned. The indigo league games were starting, and he was more than ready. He’d show that Oak (yes, the rumors were true, he was competing!) what he was up against.

Lance unwound herself from his body as they were both tangled in the sheets. “Awake yet?”

Ash mumbled something incoherent and fell asleep.

Lance shrugged, and folded her wings neatly against her back before she got up to start making breakfast.

Pikachu helped, along with Charmander. Soon, eggs were frying, toast was popping out of the toaster, and orange juice was being squeezed.

The smells finally yanked Ash out of bed. He rubbed his eyes, washed his face and brushed his teeth, and managed to get his hair under a degree of control before stumbling out of the room.

Lance paused from where she was flipping pieces of egg out of the stove and turned to look at him, her tail trailing behind her.

“Morning.” Ash greeted, sitting down at the table and helping himself to a glass of orange juice.

“I’m glad you got up, sleepyhead, because the battling starts in forty minutes.” Lance told him.

Ash nodded and picked up a piece of toast. “I’m trying to hurry.”

            “Sure you are…”

Ash tossed her a dirty look and quickly ate breakfast. Then, he went upstairs and got dressed. At ten minutes to spare, he was registering with the receptionist and as the opening ceremonies began, he spotted Gary and waved.

            Gary waved back.

Professor Oak frowned. * Ash?! What is he doing here? *

And after the long, boring speeches had been made; the battling finally began…

Oak frowned as he checked the trainer database. Ash hadn’t registered any of his pokemon, a clever maneuver as he could switch variedly between teams that way.

Gary had only put in his Umbreon and Arcanine as definite, other four slots blank.

            Oak himself laughed.

He could use any pokemon he wanted. Those kids wouldn’t stand a chance.

            He watched Ash’s first match.

Betsy was no challenge, Ash thought as he studied her. Even before the match had started…

She looked jittery and nervous, never a good sign.

            “Go.” The referee said.

            Ash smiled.

Betsy released a Seaking, and it was all he could do not to laugh as it splashed around on the slick floor of the arena.

Absol took the field. She powered up for Razor Wind while Seaking flailed hopelessly, than blasted it into a wall.

There was a sickening crunch as the fish was defeated.

Ash smirked as Betsy trembled even more and released her next pokemon.

This was a Mankey. Fighting was strong to dark, good of her.

            Or maybe not…

In a flash, Absol was recalled and replaced with…his pretty little blue eyes dark dragon.

Lance stretched, full dragon transformation, and spread her wings. Mankey paled. Too late though, a Dragon rage blew him into the sky, as Oak tried to figure out what the pokemon was.

“Last one?” Ash asked. “This is no contest at all.”

Betsy struggled with not losing her temper. “This is all your fault! You’re too old to enter!”

“What? Using my age since you think I’m too weak? I think not, Betsy.” Ash taunted. “More like you’re not old enough to deal with the stress of being a trainer. Besides, think of how old Professor Oak is.”

            Oak scowled in the stands.

“Go! Raikou!” Betsy laughed like a maniac. “Hah! Nobody would suspect a kid with a legendary pokemon!”

Ash rolled his eyes. “Only a clone, a copy. Let’s make this more exciting, shall we? Or not, I’m tired of this.”

His eyes glowed faintly. “Go! Dark Raikou!”

A card flashed somewhere. And a pure black Raikou appeared.

            Ash smirked.

            Betsy paled.

Dark Raikou yawned, using Static Illusion. Poor clone of the real Raikou card faltered and fizzled and couldn’t escape. After about an hour Ash was declared the winner.

Poor, poor Betsy, but did she really have a chance?

            Even a legendary hadn’t helped.

Oak was starting to get nervous. His own team at the moment of Tauros, Metagross, Girafarig, Nidoking, Flareon, and Tangela seemed hardly strong enough.

Who knew what else Ash had up his sleeve?

Ash was grooming Lance, who was purring as he brushed out her wings, when Professor Oak came up to him.

“What do you want?” Ash hissed. “Trying to steal away more of my pokemon?”

Oak did not look repentant. “As a researcher, I must take custody of your pokemon.”

“I think not.” Ash replied, as Lance glared daggers at Oak.

            “You will.”

“No, I won’t.” Ash said, as his eyes flashed. “I have no normal pokemon. You killed or sold all of them.”

“Then I’ll take what you do have!”

Ash shook his head. “You can’t. You can try. I see you have a Master ball with you?”

“Impudent whelp.” Oak said as he threw the master ball at the white dragon.

It exploded, showering him with fragments.

Oak roared in pain as the steel dug into his flesh. Lance got up, the dragon transformation melting away. “Too late, Oak…”

            “AAHH!”

She rolled her eyes as another Dragon Rage sent him flying into the sky. “Bakayarou…”

“Remind me not to get you mad.” Ash whispered.

Lance smirked and ruffled his hair. “I can’t stay mad at you for long.” She told him before she went back into full transformation again.
