Red didn't know why, but the moment he saw the redheaded Dragon trainer he didn't like him, not one bit! It was very strange. Lance had saved him from that Team Rocket member and his Steelix, but Red still didn't like him!

It just felt wrong. Like he should stay far away from Lance.

The other had even healed him and his pokemon! He had no reason not to want to be friends with such a nice teenager.

He sighed as he stared up at the ceiling. Was he paranoid or something?

Why didn't he like Lance?

Maybe they were just not supposed to be friends?

He wished he knew why though.

“Well, that went badly.” Lance locked the door of his room behind him. “I hope I don't see him again.”

Red was wracking his brain. Why didn't he like Lance? He was rather handsome... and strong…but... Something was telling him to stay away...

He shook his head. He wasn't gay, right?

No, of course not! He liked girls! He did!

Maybe he should go on a date with Yellow? She'd been chasing him for a while. It would help take his mind off Lance. She wasn't that pretty, but she was the closet girl right now.

Red coughed. He was straight! Picking up his phone, he dialed her number. “Hey Yellow, do you want to go to the movies with me?”

Yellow blinked. Did she really just hear that?

"Well?"

“Sure!” She thought he'd be wrapped up in Lance by now. But now she had a good chance to snare him. Well, it looked like Red had chosen her! Yay! Finally! He would be hers!

“When are you going to pick me up?” She almost didn't ask.

"Ah, six?" He said.

"Ok."

Yellow was almost giddy with joy. * Yes! *

Red sighed in relief. That hadn't been too hard. He took a shower, and then at six, went to pick up Yellow. He had dressed nicely in a gray button-up shirt and khakis.

The Viridian trainer had ditched her boyish look for the night. She was wearing a pink dress.

"Hi, Red!"

“Hi. You look nice...”

She blushed. "Thanks!"

They walked three blocks to the movie theater. Red got popcorn and sodas for both of them to be polite.

Yellow snuggled against him, grinning.

Red blinked when he saw her in the lobby while he was buying snacks. He felt... protected?

The girl had long black hair and was wearing sunglasses.

"Excuse me, Yellow..." Red walked over to her. "Um... Hi..."

"Hi." She grinned.

"I'm Red. And you are...?"

"Charlotte."

"Nice to meet you Charlotte." He liked her clothes. They were very nice, black slacks and a white blouse with a red rose pinned on the collar.

It was better than Yellow’s … slip-thing anyways.

Charlotte grinned. "Same."

She discreetly looked Red over. She could see that Lance had healed her little brother not long ago. Odd. * Why is he here with Yellow then? *

Red walked back to Yellow, feeling strange.

* I should warn him...* She thought.

Red and Yellow went into the movie theater. Charlotte waited until the movie had started, before she went outside and dialed Lance on her compact.

“Lance, Red's on a date with Yellow...”

The Ice Guardian didn't look like he cared.

"Lance?"

“I guessed this would happen.” He sighed.

“I think he vaguely remembers that you broke him twice, Lance.” The Fire Guardian said dryly. “You need to fix this!”

"Why? He's broken me too." Lance frowned.

She narrowed her eyes. "Then you're letting him go?"

"Why not?"

The girl sighed. “Well, I won't say he doesn't deserve whatever he gets, but you're that keen on punishing yourself?”

“I deserve it.” Lance said, and hung up. * Forget me, Red. Forget me and go on with your life. *

Charlotte sighed. * Why me? *

“... Why do I have to deal with these two idiots?” She muttered. She knew what Yellow was capable of! And Lance didn't seem to care! He was supposed to protect Red!

Lance was so frustrating! Stupid Ice Guardian...

She wasn't supposed to look after Red; she had the Realm to balance right now! Not that she minded checking up on her little brother once in a while, but…

As the Cosmos Champion, she had many other things to do. Still, if Yellow broke Red that would be very bad.

What a mess.

Red was oddly disappointed when the date ended. He hadn't felt anything special. Why? He had hoped that Yellow would be the one for him. She certainly liked him! But even kissing Yellow goodnight had been emotionless.

Did he just not care about her? Or was it something else? Hmm…

The trainer was quite depressed by the time he got home...

What was wrong?

He'd try Blue, maybe. He got along with her well... But she was with Silver. Maybe he should ask her for advice?

He resolved to do that tomorrow.

Blue frowned when he called her. “Maybe Yellow just isn't your type. You have to date a lot of people before you find true love.”

Red bit his lip. He had a feeling that this would not be the first time this happened. Still, he would get nowhere if he just wallowed in his despair.

The next week, he went on a date with Erika, but she said that they should just be friends. He nodded.

The next was Sabrina. Sabrina lasted three dates, but when he kissed her, nothing happened still. She shook her head.

< I'm sorry. I know I'm not the one for you. >

“What?”

< I wish I was, but I’m not. Your Mate is out there, Red. >

"What?" Red blinked. "M-Mate?"

Sabrina nodded. < I like you Red, but not in that way. You'll find him – the one for you. I know you will. >

"Him?" Red frowned. "Sabrina, I'm not that way!"

< I have faith in you, Master. You'll definitely find him. > She giggled slightly.

Red put his hands on his hips. "I like girls!"

She just tousled his hair and then said goodnight.

Sabrina watched him leave. < I sense that you are confused, Master. Why are you not already with him? >

She wished him all the happiness in the world.

Red walked home sadly. Another rejection, another failure... But why on earth had Sabrina called him Master?

It was really weird!

He changed into his light green pajamas and climbed into bed. Tomorrow was another day. He could almost feel his heart breaking. What did Sabrina mean? That he was supposed to be with someone else?

Three days later, he was feeling a lot worse. He'd reluctantly slept with Yellow, only to feel utterly disgusted when it was over, like he was dirty.

He cried himself to sleep that night.

A month later, Red had spent almost a week straight in a club and was feeling more and more worthless by the minute.

No one attracted him...

Even if he tried to get over it, he just couldn't!

Something, or according to Sabrina, someone was missing from his life. Who could it be?

He lay on his bed at night and sobbed. Nothing had worked. He wasn't sure his heart could take much more.

Could he stop this spiral by himself? The answer was unlikely. What should he do? Who could help him?
