Chapter 6: Confrontation

            “Mysdreavus! Use Perish Song!”

Red quickly recalled his pokemon and beckoned for Ash to do the same. No less than thirty rocket members surrounded them, each with three pokemon. It seemed like a no-win solution.

Charlotte nodded as her pokemon began its eerie lament. A mournful dirge drifted through the air. Suddenly, all the enemy pokemon fell over, fainted. Charlotte’s Mysdreavus joined them scant seconds later.

“No… way…” One rocket that still held the power of coherent speech said.

“Sorry, but yes!” Red said. “Haunter, use Nightmare!”

The rockets fled screaming out of the building. They had to use the fire escapes, because the second floor was still hermetically sealed off…

            Off they ran.

“Come on!” Red said, grabbing Ash’s arm as they ran towards the stairway to the fifth floor, where the target of their attack was. Charlotte ran after them, recalling her Mysdreavus and Rapidash in a flash of light. * Note to self, to get these two healed later, they need it. Hope I brought enough backup pokemon… *

“How many of yours are down?”

“Skarmory, Mysdreavus, Rapidash, and Flareon.” Charlotte said. “You?”

“Gardevoir, Alakazam, Gyrados, n’ Ditto. They caught him.” Red said. “But Haunter’s at 10% HP because of Nightmare.”

            “Great…”

“Don’t worry, I still have a couple left.” Ash said. * Poor Wartortle and Lapras… *

“I guess that’s good to hear.” Red commented as they charged up and into the brightly lit room.

In the center was a dimly glowing machine.

This is what you’re after?” Ash whispered.

“Yes.” Red told him. “Okay, I’m going to deactivate it.’ Pika perched on his head as he walked over. “You and Charlotte will have to guard me while I’m doing this.”

            “Okay…” Ash said, worriedly.

“Don’t worry ‘bout it, aniki.” Charlotte said, switching her poke belt configuration to allow easier access to her still-healthy pokemon.

“Intruders!” A voice shrieked. They looked up and saw a nearly bald Fearow screeching. “Intruder alert!”

“Shut up!” Ash snapped, his nerves were frayed enough and this bird was the final straw. “Pikachu, Thunderbolt!”
Fearow shuddered and fell down, crispy.

Alarm bells began to ring. Red winced and quickly took out a pair of pliers and began disconnecting the wires on the machine. Charlotte and Ash took battle positions. A few seconds later, the door burst open as an Onix and several Raticate burst into the room.

“Mantine, Bubblebeam!” Charlotte said. “Rapid fire!”

“Pikachu, can you do a Tsunami?” Ash asked hopefully. Pikachu narrowed his eyes and began charging up power. I think so…

“PIKACHU!” A giant tornado threw the first wave of rockets out, but a second wave quickly replaced them, armed with Graveler and Electrode.

            “Great… Mantine, return!”

Ash gulped. “Um… Whiscash, go! Use Surf!” The little mudfish began attacking the graveler. The electrodes tried to protect their teammates, but their electric attacks didn’t effect the dual water/ground type.

Ash breathed a silent sigh of relief.

“Arcanine, Roar!” Only one electrode fled from the fire hound’s war cry, the others targeted it and began using Swift.

            “Try using Flamethrower!” Charlotte said.

Red disconnected more wires. “Come on, Pika, keep charging.” Pika nodded, she was draining the electricity out of the machine and into her body so Red wouldn’t be shocked while he was working.

            Don’t worry, I’m still okay.

            “Okay, Pika.”

A Rattata suddenly appeared out of nowhere and attempted to bite off Red’s arm… just in time to become barbeque when Pika hit it with a supercharged thundershock.

Pika huffed a bit and kept guarding her owner.

“Whiscash, use Earthquake!” Ash commanded, knocking out three more electrodes. * Two more left… *

“Arcanine, quick, Extreemespeed!” Arcanine dodged an attack from the Graveler and then breathed out a Dragonbreath attack.

“Here goes…” Ash said, taking out another poke ball. “Hope this works. Hypno, Hypnosis!”

As Hypno swung his pendulum back and forth, the rockets and their pokemon began to slumber.

“Great.” Ash said. “Now… what’s next?”

“Get ready for the next wave.” Charlotte said, as footsteps sounded.

This is so not good, Ash thought ruefully.

            A man stepped inside.

He was wearing an elegant brown business suit, and he had sparkling blue hair. This stopped the three trainers for a second.

            “Who are you?”

“Allow me to introduce myself. I am the leader of team rocket.”

As one, Charlotte and Red both attacked, not even giving him time to explain himself. Two seconds later, the man was obviously dead.

Charlotte glared as she collected her Senbon. “You killed our father…”

Ash looked on, wide-eyed, before he fainted dead away.

When he woke up, Delia was fussing over him.

“You okay, Ash?” She asked, concerned.

            “Mostly… what happened?”
“Oh, you were hit by a pokemon attack and blacked out, so we teleported you back here.” Red said, lying effortlessly.

Ash blinked as he tried to remember what had happened, but seemed to come up against a wall instead. “Oh.”

“Get some more sleep.” Charlotte advised, as she brought over a bowl of chicken noodle soup. “You’ll need it.”

Ash nodded, drank the soup, took an aspirin, and soon fell asleep again.

When he woke up again, he was alone in the cave.

Ash sighed. “How do I go home now?”

“We don’t know.” Red said in disappointment. “Perhaps you’ll have to stay here with us.”

            “I see…” Ash sighed.

Well, at least life could only get better.
