Chapter 5

“Well, here we are.” Ash said, as the walked the last few blocks from the train station to the house. It was modestly sized, with only two bedrooms, but they were all guys, so it did not really matter. There was a small kitchenette, but of course, the beach was the main attraction.

Outside, seagulls called and waves lapped against the shore. Brock, Gary Ash, and their persocoms smiled and spread out over the area.

            “Well?”

“It’s nice.” Gary slid his sunglasses on as he flopped down over a towel, yawning. It really was quite nice…

Misty enjoyed splashing in the water in the modest red two-piece Gary had bought her. Suzie and Charlotte stayed far away from the water, like normal persocoms should. It prevented rusting after all…

Far off in the distance, dolphins could be seen. Gary borrowed Brock’s binoculars to take a look.

The beach was pretty deserted, since there was a brisk wind blowing, but the sand underneath their feet was warm. Besides, he was wearing a sweatshirt for protection.

            “Are you cold?”

Charlotte nodded. Ash pulled a wire and a two inch black screen out of his backpack and put the wire in her ear. “Increase internal heating by ten degrees.” That ought to do it…

Even in this false body, she was still afraid of the cold. How typical of her.

He wondered how long their cycle of life, a circle, had been repeating. Ages and ages, he supposed, but he knew little of the ancient past. Ah well…

If only they had a way to split the two interconnected…

Charlotte gave Ash a concerned look as she sat up. < Is something wrong? >

            < What if Missingno isn’t here? >

< Well, unless you hook me up to her, I cannot tell for sure. She’s been tainted with so much darkness that even when she is innocent, we would rather strike first and kill any threat before it rises. >

I know it is not fair for her, but for us to die under the same evil star over and over… that is not fair either. >

< It may be possible to split them, Ash. >

            < I know. Oh well, I’m sure… something will come up. >

< If I distract them, can you? >

            < Sure. >

Misty was fast asleep, or at least, her power cells had run down. Now was the perfect time. While Brock and Gary searched the house for a charging machine, Charlotte hooked herself up to Misty and ran a quick scan.

            Nothing.

There was no trace of Missingno either in her soul or her databank. Interesting…

Charlotte recharged her and than released her.

            So. Things were different now.

            < Nothing? >

            < Nothing, Lance. >

< Good work, then. I’ll run through the data to see if we missed anything, but if not, then we’ll leave her alone. >

< I’m sure she’ll be happy with Gary. > Ash nodded.

            < Then we’ll end this for now… >
