Chapter 2

Blaze woke up two days later in the house of a girl with blondish hair.

            “Hi! I’m Yellow!”

            “I’m Blaze.”

“Nice to meet you!” She said cheerfully.

They talked for a bit, before she asked him why he had been unconscious in the woods.

“I got attacked by a trainer.”

            “Oh no!”

“Yes.” Blaze said miserably. “I think he was from Team Rocket. He stole my pokemon.”

            “Oh no!”

So, he very effortlessly lied his way into receiving another Pikachu, this one a girl named Chuchu, and everything was fine.

            He went off again.

            “You should have killed him.”

“Maybe, but first I’ll seal him.”

            “Very good idea…”

            “I love making them squirm.”

            “You should.”

“Or, I _could_ remove him from the time stream altogether.”

“You could,” Lance agreed, “But that might cause the domino effect.”

            “Ah…”

“And then we might not meet.”

Red smiled as Lance handed him a glass of lemonade. “Ah… that would be bad…”

He closed his eyes and let himself remember their first meeting.

***********************Flashback Mode*********************************

It was perhaps six months after his journey when he had run into Team Rocket in the Celadon Game Corner. Well, he had found the man guarding the poster suspicious…

So they had battled, but between Espeon and Umbreon – his only two pokemon – he had defeated him.

Behind the poster lay a switch, that when pressed, opened a door.

            So in he went.

Maybe that was the first mistake.

More rockets had swarmed in, and he had defeated seven of them before obtaining the Lift Key.

Now he could face the Boss.

He had been too arrogant to be excited, and had immediately taken the elevator, after first healing his pokemon with some Soda Pop.

            Fighting beat dark-types.

He watched in horror as the shadowed man’s Hitmonchan took down his Umbreon, and knocked some HP off his Espeon before fainting.

            And then…

Well, he should have brought more pokemon… but Charmeleon had been resting in the pokemon center, along with Bellsprout, who was still very weak…

Espeon managed to defeat the Persian that followed, but then came a Rhyhorn…

Red gulped as it charged _him_, not Espeon. What to do?

He tried to move but his body wouldn’t.

            It was like paralysis…

            “Kairyuu! Hyper Beam!”

That was when the Rhyhorn went flying, and the man cursed before running out in a flash.

            “You all right?”

Red saw golden eyes and red hair, was it, before he fainted from shock and nervousness.

He woke up in a bed. It was a nice, fluffy bed.

“Are you feeling a little bit better?”

            “Who are you?”

The boy laughed. “Lance Dragyn, dragon trainer.”

            “Thank you for saving me…”

“Oh, it was nothing. I followed you in there.”
            “You did?”

“Sure, there were rumors that Team Rocket had a base in Celadon but you were the first person to find it.”

            “Um… my pokemon?”

“They’re resting in the other room.”

            “A-arigatou!”

“No problem.” Lance handed him a cup of orange juice. “Drink this, you need some liquids.”

            “A-ano?”

            “Why? Because you lost blood.”

            “Nani?”

“You didn’t get away fast enough, you got a few deep scratches on your arm.”

            “I see…”

Red examined his arm, and sure enough, it was bandaged and stung a bit.

            “Thank you for everything Lance.”

“Well, it was nothing, really. Besides, you helped me find Team Rocket.”

            “Are you fighting them?”

            “Kind of…”

            “Kakkoii! Can I help?”

            “Not yet.” Red deflated.

“I’ll find you when you get all the badges of Kanto.”

            “All right! I’ll do it!”

They shook hands, and parted, maybe not friends yet, but at least as friendly acquaintances.

Sure enough, Espeon and Umbreon were healed and waiting.

Take care of yourself too, Master Red.

            I know!

Red blushed slightly. “I’m sorry… I was too confident.”

< It’s all right as long as you learn from your mistakes. >

            < All right. >
