Chapter 7

Lance looked amused as Ash hyperventilated for a few minutes. * AAAHHHH! Why? Why? Oh my goodness, what am I going to do? But! I still love her! And, if she leaves, I’m going to cry… I don’t care if that’s not proper! I do love her, and she’s a real friend! I won’t find someone like her again! I’m not going to give up! I won’t lose her to someone else! *

 “I don’t care!”

            “Hmm?”

“I don’t care who you are! I still love you!”
He waited for a negative response.

Instead, Crystal – no, Lance, swept him up and hugged him. “I knew it.”

            “Ah! Your arm! Are you-?”

Lance smirked, and casually pulled off the bandages, revealing completed healing. “I heal very fast.”

            Ash gaped.

“But thank you.” She said, before she kissed him.

“I don’t understand.” Ash said a few minutes later. “Why are you dressed like this then? Why the disguise?”

“I was entrusted to the care of a magical item known as the King’s Crystal. But it’s not something I carry with me.”

            “Huh?”

“It’s part of me. White crystal? That’s why I look like this.” Lance said, tossing back her white hair.

            “… Oh…”

They sat in silence for a second, before Ash paused. “So why are you telling me this?”

She put her hand in his. “Well, I love you.”

            “Honto ni?”

“Of course.” There was no lie in those clear orbs, and he nodded, before the second half of the answer popped into his brain somehow.

It wasn’t as much of an answer as it was backlash.

Lance caught him as he stumbled, the memories washing him in shame.

            “Shh….”

            It’s so easy to drown.

            “Why?”

“I won’t tell you.” She said finally. “But when Misty comes, you know what to do. There is no time to waste.”

            He nodded.

That was the only warning he got before she attacked. Either that or he did. Well, actually, that probably wasn’t the right word to use, but in any case, it was pretty clear what happened. So, Pikachu giggled.

            They’re so shy!

Well, at least it comes now. Squirtle yawned, putting on his sunglasses. Bulbasaur whacked him with a vine.

            Don’t be so crude!

            Hey! I’m not!

            Charizard just laughed to himself.

But still, something, something was wrong somewhere.

            “You’re very perceptive Ash.”

            He blinked at her. “What?”

            “Look in my eyes.”

Well, it wasn’t that strange of a request, so he looked… and saw…

            Understanding would come later.

            “Why?”

            “I can’t tell you.”

            “Demo…”

“The night is very beautiful, Ash.” Lance changed the subject, or was she stating a fact? He couldn’t tell.

            He just waited.

It started to rain. Hard. They sat there, shielded by air as the droplets ran down the dome in drips.

“You want me to kill her?”

“It’s more merciful than if I do it, Ash. Also, what happens if you fail?”

            “I can’t fail!”

            “Exactly…”

Steel glittered against his throat before he reacted instantly, and attacked.

            Almost too late!

            “I need the King’s Crystal.”

            “Why are you here, Rudy?”

“I know you have it. Give it to me.”

            “NEVER!”

“Then I’ll take it by force. Scyther! Slash!”

He dodged, nearly slipped on the mud because of the heavy rain, and lashed out, electricity arcing and burning over his fingers.

He would fight to protect her. It wasn’t really Rudy’s fault, but if he kept attacking, then…

            “Thunderbolt!”

Two fried bodies tumbled to the floor.

At least it was better than death, right?

They would wake up soon enough.

“Oh, now that’s not very nice.” A voice laughed.

“I have no time to banter pleasantries with you, Missingno. Show yourself!”

“So brave! Where are your protectors now?” She mocked. “Oh, that’s rich! A little kid fighting all by himself! You think you can beat me?”

            “I don’t need them anymore.”

“Ah, well then, prepare to die!”

He closed his eyes. * Now. *

            Fire.

            Ice.

            Lightning.

            “Time Invocation!”

            *CRASH*

She stumbled back up, horror etched on her features. She had avoided the thunder guardian’s attack, but… “How?”

Laughter. Sharp-edged steel hit before her mind registered. It hurt. She bled. Splats against the pavement sounded.

            “Stop!”

            “It’s my revenge. MissingNo…”

            “I’ll- DEMON FIRE! DARKNESS BLAST!”

            “Too late.”

Blurs and blizzard and teeth and silver all flashing inside her mind before she tumbled off the cliff and into the roaring seas below, she was dead.

            So fast…

            “You!”

“Hate me now, little one.” She licked the blood off her fingers with an offhand gesture. “Do you still love me like _this_?”

Crimson stained the white of purity. Light. This was a test. Steel wings dripped life yet.

            Dried dark stains in air.

            “Do you?”

            “I…”

He looked to the darkness, embraced it; pulled it into his being as he tasted copper sweetness, clung tightly to it.

            Didn’t let go.

            “Yes.”

            She smiled.

Disturbing, I know… ah, feel free to e-mail me with questions, or use livejournal, I prefer that method…

EPILOGUE/an explanation! – 1.5 years later (King’s Crystal wears off now)

Lance sighed in relief as the last of the white shattered and broke into sparkling lights.

            “Lance? Why?”

            “What do you mean?”

“I mean…” Ash paused. “If you hadn’t shown me the darkness, I never would have known. Why did you tell me?”

            “I wouldn’t have, but…”

She chuckled. “Did you ever wonder what the King’s Crystal did?”

            Ash blinked. “Not really…”

“It shows truth. The absolute truth.” Lance explained. “That’s why I couldn’t hide anything from you.”

“So, all those mood swings and everything?”

“They are all a part of me, as much as the Dragon Master and the Master of Dark Illusions are.”

            “I see…”

“No, you don’t, but it’s fine, I have plenty of time to teach you.” She smiled.

            “Then why did it vanish?”

“Oh, you’re so blind…” Lance smiled. “Lugia can not see the future as Serebii can, but it doesn’t mean he’s helpless either.”

            “?”

“He knew Misty – no, Missingno, was going to appear somewhere in that two-year timeline. And what better way than to provide bait?”

            “So you!”

“The King’s Crystal was really only created for the purpose of luring Misty out in his opinion, or at least that’s what he told me. Of course, I should have suspected my guardian of having something up his sleeve… at least it’s better than deceiving you.”

            Ash nodded mutely.

“So you know all about me now.”

Ash blushed, and then nodded again.

“Well, kawaii ko, then I should get to know you better.” Lance purred, as Ash blushed further and a crash was heard.

Bulbasaur and Squirtle looked up from their tea and grinned in unison.
