Chapter 9

He cried, even as Justin wheedled and coaxed and offered anything, if only he would smile…

            Anything?

The little flame of revenge that had been living in his heart for so long burned brightly into flame as he hid a smile… yes…

“I want to go see Melvin the Magician perform in Las Vegas.”

“Of course, my dear! It will be a wonderful vacation for us both!”

If only he knew… he watched as Justin quickly made the arrangements. Yes. It was perfect. He would finish his revenge and then cleanse himself of this atrocity…

            It would be perfect

Golden eyes watched from beneath crimson bangs as the two flew on their way… a quick snap of his fingers, and then the destination was made.

Soon, Ashura, soon… you will forget, and I will help you… never forget that I’m here for you…

            Never…

            They had front-row seats.

The man was close, so close… he could feel the blood tingling inside his veins, waiting…. Wanting so much it made his fingers shake…

He would have his revenge, even if it killed him!
Still, he had to admit that Melvin had improved in the months that he’d last seen him… the man was quite an excellent magician now…

“For this next trick, I’ll need a volunteer… oh yes! Thank you, miss!”

            What?

It couldn’t be her! What was she doing here? But his senses did not lie.

Silver. She was wearing pure silver today, slinky, sparkling like the moon, like the blade of a knife, like…

            Oh, wow… she was pretty.

Justin tensed. It couldn’t be, could it? No, it couldn’t be, couldn’t! He watched as the woman? She was laid inside a box resembling a coffin, before ten blades went through…

Golden eyes slid closed as the act began…

Screams came from the audience as Melvin pulled the last two blades now – they were coated with blood!
Melvin paled as he hurriedly lifted the lid.

            Open, unseeing eyes stared back…

“Call an ambulance! Someone call an ambulance!” What had went wrong? True, this was a new trick and he had only done it twice before, but he could not have actually killed her, could he have? Of course not…

Please no! I’ll lose my license and my job and everything!

“Argent!” Ash cried, as he tried to climb onstage, but Justin kept a firm grip on his legs. “Let go of me!”

“Look, Ash, it’s just an accident-!”

“Just an accident! That’s what you say? That man is out to ruin people’s lives! At least he never took my life, but now!”

            “Ash, calm down! It’s-!”

            “Let me go!”

Justin staggered back, the heel of a shoe imprinted on his face as Ash heaved himself onstage and darted over to the coffin. “Argent!”

Melvin was gibbering as his Exeggutor attempted to restore order to the panicking crowd, almost all of whom had fled.

“No! Argent!” Ash winced in sympathy as he carefully lifted her out of the box to see how bad her injuries were… and gaped in shock as her true gender was revealed.

Well, no matter now! He could discuss the other’s cross-dressing tendencies later! For now, he was hurt!

Ash ripped his shirt into strips and began binding as best he could…

“Lance! I knew it was you!” Justin howled, as he also clambered onstage. “What are you doing, Ash?”

“What’s it to you?” Ash ground out, as he pressed his hands to the wound. There… yes, that would work, hopefully his psychic ability would kick in now…

Black threads wound all around his torso, before the wound was sealed shut without a trace…

The doors to the auditorium slammed shut.

Golden eyes met amber. Ash sighed in relief. “Argent, you’re all right…”

            “Ashura…”

“Back out of the way, Ash! I have a score to settle with him!” Justin barked.

            “No.”

            “What? I demand you move!”

“Since when were you my keeper? You abducted and raped me, and now you expect me to fall in love with you and become your plaint little plaything? It doesn’t work like that, Justin.”

Lance smirked. “True, you ought to listen to him…”

“Lance you bastard! What have you done to him?!”

“Argent never hurt me, unlike you!”

            “I didn’t hurt you, I love you!”

            “Liar!”

Melvin now attempted to slip offstage unseen, but before he could escape, silver ribbons had bound him tightly.

            Argent – Lance smirked.

            “Argent?”

“Take the revenge you so ardently desire, Ashura...”

That voice… it sang of darkness and madness and unseen promises, and now he realized why she – er, he, had never spoken.

It could drive the hearer mad.

But he didn’t care, as his power slammed into the magician, sending him crashing into a wall… his back broken, he wasn’t dead, but he’d never be able to perform if he were paralyzed permanently.

Smiling, he made a mock bow, and then he kicked Justin in a very painful area in the next instant.

“I don’t want to kill you, but I do want you to suffer as I have suffered.” He grinned. “Do you think I’m stupid enough to fall in love with a pretty face? I may be naive, but I’m not stupid!”

Justin groaned, clutching his wounded organs painfully.

“Ne, Argent, you really are Lance, aren’t you?”

            Lance smirked. “Yes.”

“So why does Justin want revenge on you?”

“I believe that’s a story better told without an audience, don’t you?” He smiled, offering his hand to Ash. “Shall we?”

Ash took it with a smile. “Yes, let’s.”

They vanished into the darkness, leaving a sobbing Justin behind…

            “So.”

“So.” Lance shrugged and began telling his tale, and by the end, Ash was calm, but smiling.

“So I helped you with your revenge as you have helped me with mine.”

            “Yes…”

            “Mutual benefit, ne?”

            “Mm.”

“So…” Ash added slyly, “What do I owe you for taking care of me?”

Lance smirked as he pulled Ash into a searing kiss. “Only what you desire.”

“Oh, I know what I desire… will you grant it?”

            “Of course…”

            Night fell.
