They walked until they got to the
coast. To his surprise, Kingdra knew Surf and was very willing to take him to
He grinned and soon they were at Cinnabar. It was too late to get the Volcano Badge tonight, but maybe tomorrow, well, he’d see.
To his surprise, Ash got the Volcano badge on his first try.
It had been almost a week since he had met Lance. He was sunning himself on the beach, watching Kingdra and Squirtle play in the water along with Krabby, whom he had gotten from Oak, when a shadow dropped over him.
"Hey, Ash," The familiar voice said.
He looked up. "Hey..." He blushed, feeling shy. * Lance is so pretty… and strong. I want to be like him. *
"How are you doing?" Lance glanced at the water pokemon. Squirtle waved, Kingdra preened, and Krabby just waddled. "She seems to like it with you."
Ash nodded. “She seems to really like being here with me. I don't know how much stronger she's gotten, though.” He grinned. “She helped me get the Volcano Badge!”
"Wonderful." The Champion smiled.
Ash blushed. He wasn't sure why Lance made him feel this way. * Do I… love him? He’s so nice… *
It couldn’t be!
Suddenly, an enraged shriek sounded. Ash turned to see Misty on crutches hobbling towards him.
He shrunk back.
"I'll kill you!" She was holding her mallet.
Ash rushed to his feet and ran into the surf where Kingdra and Squirtle were playing, needing them with him. His pokemon would protect him!
Misty advanced.
Suddenly, the trainer tripped.
Lance narrowed his eyes. “That display of temper is uncalled for.”
Ash was trembling as he watched Misty. She ignored Lance.
She slammed the mallet towards him, but missed. Sprays of sand flew up.
Lance had had enough.
He walked over to her and shoved her onto the sand. "Stop this at once!" He then yanked the crutches away from her.
Ash watched in amazement. His idol Lance was helping him?
“How dare you? You're supposed to represent the Pokemon League. Be kind, courteous and respectful to all trainers at all times! Isn't that the Gym Leader code?” The Dragon Master hissed. “For your repeated violations, I ought to take your license!”
Ash had nearly forgotten that Lance was a Champion on top of being the Leader of the Kanto Elite Four.
Misty's eyes had gone from angry to defiantly fearful. “What?”
“Yes... I think a six month suspension to start should do nicely.” The man growled. “And I doubt Ash deserves the months of abuse you heaped on him for wrecking your bike. You did steal his Pikachu too.”
He stroked his chin thoughtfully. “You should be glad I'm not fining you.”
Pissed off beyond all reason now, Misty attacked Lance.
"Kingdra, Ice Beam!" Ash cried. He couldn’t let her hurt Lance!
Kingdra's Ice Beam caught Misty in mid-lunge. Lance casually chopped a hand on the back of her neck, almost enough to break it.
She face-planted into the sand. Misty screamed in pain.
Ash was sitting where he had tripped, wincing. * Ow… *
How could he have been so clumsy?
"Dragonite," Lance casually waved the other pokemon over. "Thunderwave." Lightning crackled over the Waterflower girl’s prone form.
He turned to Ash and gently helped him out of the water. The boy's ankle was swelling. There were tears in the kid’s eyes. He didn't know if his ankle was broken, or just sprained, but it hurt.
Lance carefully placed his fingers over the bump and focused, his eyes glinting soft blue.
Ash stared. What was this? It seemed a little like a pokemon attack. The pain was going away though. He blinked.
Kingdra nudged him.
"Oh." He tried to stand, and found that he could. "T-Thanks..."
Lance smiled as Ash's Pikachu bounded over to them. Pikachu looked strangely different…
< Ahh... Pika-chan, I haven't seen you in a while. Hiding the wings, are you? >
She nodded. < Pika is disciplining his starter and I'm taking her place. > The ‘Eternal Winged Pikachu of Greatness’, in mini form for the moment, lunged at Ash for a hug. < I'm also bringing his cards. >
Ash hesitated, but hugged Pikachu.
< Well I dearly hope that ungrateful mouse gets severely punished! >
< Pika wasn't happy... He was charging a Megavolt when I left. > Pika-chan licked Ash's cheek.
< Good. >
Ash blinked. "Pikachu..."
Pika-chan placed herself on his shoulder. She nuzzled him happily.
He sighed.
Lance frowned. “You should get out of those wet clothes, Ash.”
Ash nodded and opened his backpack to get some clothes.
Lance discreetly watched as he changed. Ash was very cute. He licked his lips.
The Pallet trainer came out a minute later. He looked at Lance, flushing slightly. He wanted to thank him. He just wasn't sure how...
He bit his lip and looked down at his feet.
Lance smiled. "I'll see you again, Ash."
Ash nodded.
He watched as Lance took off, sighing. He hoped to see Lance soon... He'd left without letting him thank him...
Ash hugged Kingdra. "I wonder what I should do..."
"You should train hard and become a Champion." Pika-chan said.
Chocolate eyes widened. * Huh? When can Pikachu talk! *
Pika-chan nodded. “Then you can see him again, right?”
He was a bit freaked out, but TR had a talking Meowth, so why couldn't he have a talking Pikachu? "Yeah, I guess..."
Pika-chan smiled at Ash. * I hope he finds his Mate soon. *
Ash nodded to himself. He wanted to be a Pokemon Master... so why not start with becoming a Champion? That would be a good step...
The Earth Badge was in Viridian, right?
He turned to Kingdra. "Let's stop by Pallet to visit mom first. I haven’t seen her in a while. Can you take me home?"
Kingdra nodded. Yes Master.
