Chapter 2: Truce

“Impossible.” Oak gasped, staring at his research.

            But the truth stared back.

He had abandoned a child in his moment of need, never looked back! He had lied to one who only spoke the truth, and now!
            “Grandfather?”

“Green, go find Yellow and Blue. We need all the help we can get!”

Puzzled, Green flew off on his Charizard, collected Yellow, and met his grandfather back at the lab.

            “Red is alive.”

“I suspected as much.” Blue said, she and Silver having flown in from Johto. “He can’t die that easily.”

            “But that’s not it.”

Oak turned on the camera from the day taken when Red had come to see him. Sure enough, it was Red, but…

            “What happened to his eyes?”

            Brown had become bloody crimson.

            Oak shivered. “I don’t know.”

            “Well, then what is it?”

“The history tells of the child of hope, broken and destroyed, the light-bringing becoming the night-bringer…”

            “Hmm?”

“It means.” Oak sighed. “That we’re in danger. And we all contributed to it.”

            Yellow frowned. “I’m confused.”

“You, Yellow! Did Red come to see you recently?”

“Yes, today in fact. He wanted pika back, but Pika won’t leave Chuchu.”

            Oak cursed. “The first step!”

“You are not making any sense.” Silver said a bit arrogantly.

“Basically, Red has hidden power. You know, empathy? Like you have your quick wits and acrobatic skills…”

            “So?”

“It can be used for destruction, and I’m afraid that’s what we face now.”

Yellow frowned. “But who would support him?”

“An organization known as the Elite Four… they have been waiting for this opportunity…”

Blue winced. “I heard rumors. Is it true about Lugia?”

“I’m not sure, but even if not… we had best prepare for war.”

“Hold it!” Green said. “This is so sudden, and unfounded…”

“No, not unfounded.” Oak sighed, looking older than his years. “Look.”

The sky outside churned black and red and purple mixing and swirling as flashes of lightning illuminated the sky.

“The first sign of falling.” Oak said. “The gates to the dream realm are now open.”

            “The what?”

“The dream realm is like a fantasy world connected to ours.”

            “What good can it do?”

            “Watch.”

A portal opened, and a pure black Charizard materialized, roaring. Black fire spewed from its mouth, incinerating a house.

            “See?”

“Let’s go stop it now!” Blue said, as she and Silver grabbed their water pokemon and ran outside.

            “Wait!”

Oak turned to Green and Yellow. “Green, you were Red’s best friend, even though you were rivals.”

            “Yes?”

“So you can probably change him back. Here!”

Green took the white orb, puzzled. Oak nodded. “That is the Orb of Reconciliation.”

“So it’ll bring him back to normal.”

“Yes! I’m trusting you two to find him!”

“Count on us!” Yellow said perkily unaware of the danger she was in. The two grabbed their own pokemon and left.

Red slept calmly, trustingly, as Lance held him. Outside, the seas roared. The Dragon Master smiled.

            < Excellent. >

< Yes, my Chosen. You have done well. >

            < Lugia-san. >

< For now, just keep him hidden and safe. >

            < I hear and obey. >

< Two are trying to change him. Stop them, kill them if you must. >

            Lance nodded.

No, Red would stay until the night had descended. He placed a kiss on the child’s lips and tightened the barriers around their cave.

            It would hold.

Did those two bakas know what they were up against?

He wasn’t Dragon Master for nothing.

            People always forgot that.

            And Lugia?

The sea swarmed with whirlpools as the water spread, onward in its path to destroy and purify.

They would be finished before the two came.

            The barriers still held…

Yellow and Green clung onto each other and the Pidgeot tightly as they made their way towards Cerise Island.

“This is impossible! The weather’s going crazy!”

            Yellow nodded, scared. * Oh no… *

            But Pika was hers!

She didn’t give up that easily.

            Green sighed.

His friend was still such a kid…

But being a child only when it was convenient was just a farce…

They gritted their teeth and continued on.

            What else could they do?

Yellow sighed as she hugged both the pikachus.

It should be okay! Red wasn’t too angry, right?
