Chapter 3: Breaking in

Cerise Island was finally in sight. They touched down.

“Here we are.” Green said, as they walked inside.

Instantly, a barrier of red light blocked their way.

Yellow touched it despite Green’s admonishing, and nothing happened. However, the barrier was like diamond or something. Pokemon attacks didn’t even dent it.

They fought for about half an hour before Green sighed and recalled his pokemon. “We’re only wasting our energy. Let’s find another way in.”

Yellow looked down and nodded, following him inside.

            They walked…

            And walked…

            And walked some more…

Finally, they came to another area that didn’t seem to be barriered. They walked inside.

            “Red!”

Red looked up from where he was playing checkers with his Quagsire. “You are? What are you doing here?!”

Quagsire crowned a piece a king and motioned for Red to take his turn.

            “Red, what’s going on?”

            “What do you mean?”

“You know! The weird weather and all that! Grandfather says it is related to you somehow! What is it?”

“What is?” Red paused. “Strange weather?”

            “You didn’t notice?!”

            “I haven’t been outside for a few days…”

Green took Red’s arm and dragged him forcibly to the cave entrance. “SEE?! Now stop it!”

“But I don’t know how.” Ash said truthfully.

            “Nani?”

Red shook Green off and went back inside. “Well, it’s not my problem. The barriers will protect this island.”

“The barriers!” Yellow cried. “What are they?”

“Oh. You didn’t know?” Red asked. “It’s elemental power, pure and simple.”

A gong sounded somewhere inside the cave.

            “Ah! I’ll miss dinner!”

Green and Yellow raced after him as Red ran down a maze of tunnels until he came to a room.

“You’re late.” Lorelei said. “The fish might have gotten cold.”

“Suminasen, Lorelei!” Ash said, as he applied himself to the food quickly. Lance chuckled.

            “Did you have fun?”

            “Hai, Lance-chan!”

Agatha looked up. “Why hello, Green. I haven’t seen you in years, my grandson.”

            “… Grandson?”

“Certainly.” Agatha said. “Who did you think your grandmother was?”

            Green’s eyes widened. “Oh…”

“Wait! Green! They’re the Elite Four!” Yellow cried, being unusually perceptive. Green jumped.

            “How can it be?”

“Well, it’s not a very long story.” Agatha said. “Why don’t you sit down and I’ll explain.”

Neither of them was happy with the way things were turning out, but they nodded and obeyed.

Some fish, rice, and seaweed later, everyone felt more mellowed. Green enjoyed the tiramisu Bruno had procured very much.

            Bruno left to train.

Ash yawned, as he sat next to Lance, practically in the trainer’s lap, much to Green and Yellow’s surprise.

            “So what’s going on?”

“With the weather?” Lorelei asked. ‘Well, that’s Lugia…”

“Hai… the dragon of the seas is angry.” Lance said in a slightly spooky way. His eyes misted over silver for a second, before returning to normal.

            < Lance-chan? >

            < I’m fine; don’t worry so much. >

< Hai! > Ash nodded and hugged the trainer just in case.

After all, he did not want to be scared.

            Lance-chan was so warm…

Green’s eyes widened farther, Yellow just looked confused.

            < You’re scaring your friend, Ash. >

            < Ah! >

< Maybe you should have told him first…. >

            < Well, I don’t like telling my secrets! Especially about you… >

            < Point taken. >

“As I was saying,” Lorelei continued, “We can’t help you.”

            “Why not?!”

“Because, our goal is the purification of this earth.” Agatha said. “And since the pokémon are doing it now, we are not going to interfere.”

            “That’s just death and destruction!”

            “Well, that’s war, my grandson.”

Green glared, but Agatha was telling the truth. He sighed.

“It’s not like we could stop it.” Lorelei added.

            “Huh?”

“You heard Red say it, he doesn’t know what’s going on. So how can he stop this?” Lance asked.

            “How did you-?”

Yellow looked at Lance suspiciously. “Are you causing it?”

Lance smirked. “Well, what do you think?”

The girl glared and charged with her doduo, but then they hit another block. Specifically, a wall of ice rose out of the ground and protected the two.

Red clung to Lance while sending a poisonous glare at Yellow. “You already took Pika, you’re not taking him away from me!”

            “What?”

“You heard me.” Red said. His eyes blazed redder. “If you want to take Lance-chan, you’ll have to go through me first.”

Green inwardly slapped his forehead. * That stupid girl… *
