Chapter 2

He took the proffered hairpin from Todd with a dubious look as he knocked on the door.

“Just stick it in your hair somehow.” The boy urged. * This will work out I hope… *

Ash nodded, as he did so. After all, he had hair that fell slightly back his shoulders when it wasn’t spiked, like now.

Lance opened the door, looking surprised. Usually he didn’t have any visitors… especially not girls?

The one with round glasses and honey hair did look familiar though… the other one was tall and slender with long black hair and an interesting jade hairpin.

            “How may I help you?”

“Lance, can I crash at your house for a few weeks?”

That sounded just _odd_ coming from the lady, but he raised his eyebrows. “Do I know you?”

“Damnit, Lance, this is no time to be making jokes! I really need your help! I’ll pay you later!”

“Er… Ash…” The shorter girl said. “Maybe you’d better take a quick look at yourself first.”

Lance looked amused as he ushered them inside. “So, Ashura, is that really you? Funny, I wouldn’t have known… you do make a cute girl.”

“I hate you Todd…” Ash whispered.

            “The body certainly looks convincing…”

            “Lance, hentai~!”

“Just teasing you.” The dark magician laughed. “But are you sure no one knows you’re here?”

            “Hai!”

“Very well then, you can stay until you recover.”

“That’s great!” Todd said. “I’ll be leaving now! I’m glad you have such a good friend Ashley!”

“… Ashley?” Ash asked, before Todd was gone.

            “It fits!”

As soon as Todd had left, Lance smirked. “Good friend?”

“More like blatant enemy.” Ash rejoined. “I promise I’ll pay you back for this.”

            “Indeed.” The man said dryly.

            “Well, I will! Now what?”

“Now, we need to think of a reason why you’re staying her in case someone comes.” Lance frowned.

            “Lance, do you?”

“Could you do me a favor for a second?”

            “Huh?”

Ash did not quite get the chance to reply before Lance had divested him of his shirt. “Hey! What are you-.”

“As I suspected…” Lance said, handing Ash back the garment, which he – she? Snatched with a red face.

            “What?”

“You have a Magic Seal on you.”

“No, not magic.” Ash corrected. “Power.”

“Right… Power… Magic… Wisdom… Love…and Truth… the five seals of the spirit. It would make sense.”

            “?”

“The seals look almost identical in any case.” Lance grinned, showing his teeth. “I’ll pass you off as my apprentice.”

            “Arigatou, then.”

“Just don’t talk about payback yet, we can deal with that later.”

            “All right.”

“Until then, we’d better take a look at that leg…”

Ash blushed, as Lance ran quick fingers over his body, testing the life currents within, and then began to chant.

The worst of the damage was quickly restored.

“You’ll owe me for this too. But you’d better not use that leg for a few weeks.”

            “All right.”

“Oh, and you’re making dinner tonight.”

            “What?”

“I invited one of my friends over for dinner before you came for help. Incidentally, he’s from the Astral Kingdom.”

            “Damn.”

“So you’ll have to act like a girl. First of all, don’t curse…”

It was not a happy session in the kitchen half an hour later.

            “Would you stop ogling me?”

“I’m not.” Lance said. “But if I hadn’t stopped you, you would have already chopped four of your fingers off.”

Ash glared, knife in one hand, carrots in the other. “I bet you’re enjoying this chance to push me around aren’t you.”

“Well, you’re crashing in _my_ house… so you’d better keep me in a good mood, or I might ‘accidentally’ reveal your secret.”

            “I hate you.”

“I dislike you as well.” Lance said. “Ever since you stopped me from getting the Elixir of Heaven…”

            “That was my job!”

“As you will… oh, watch out.”

Ash eeped… he had nearly cut off a finger again.

“But still, what’s with the apron?”

“So you don’t get your clothes dirty.”

He pulled disdainfully at the dark blue gown the hairpin had gifted him with.

“It looks like it was taken from the colors of your outfit as a male.”

            “Yeah, yeah, whatever.”

“Please, etiquette.” Lance sighed. “Maybe you shouldn’t come to dinner…”

“That’d suit me, you think I _want_ to have dinner with you?”

“But then you’d have to play my maid or something.” Lance said nonchalantly. “After all, if you were my apprentice, we’d spend all our time together.”

            Ash glared.

“And do remember to cross your legs when you sit down… it works better…”

Ash vowed he _would_ get revenge for this humiliation. It was all Todd’s fault!
