Chapter 4

            “Starmew, I choose you!”

There was a gasp as the pokemon was revealed. Small in size, much like a mew, it was a shimmery gold color with a long, whippy tail.

There were no real other features.

Black eyes opened and gazed at Moltres.

Ash smiled. Starmew was a psychic type, yes, but…

There was one thing they didn’t know.

            It was magic-type as well.

“Moltres, Fire Blast that thing to smithereens!”

Starmew teleported out of the way, and then used Typhoon, changing the weather to flood Moltres with water and lightning.

It crashed to the arena floor with a wet squelch.

            “Moltres! Damn you, Zapdos, go!”

Smart, really. It was so useful that Mews could learn every technique, and when you coupled that with magic you really did have a deadly combination. Now what… Dig and Earthquake wouldn’t hurt Zapdos…

            Try something else then.

            “Rock Throw!”

Zapdos proved very agile, avoiding all the rocks with the help of Agility. Unfortunately, it couldn’t last forever…

Also, there was Sweet Scent spreading.

Starmew could learn attacks that didn’t exist yet too. Very useful…

            Zapdos fell.

            “Articuno!”

So he _had_ caught all the legendary birds, very good, very good… at least it proved Hank was a good trainer, right?

At least that was what it was supposed to mean.

Either that or he was horrible and couldn’t win without them…

            “Articuno! Drill Peck!”

Starmew teleported away in a flash of emptiness before she used Thunderwave. A hit. Articuno squawked and shot out Ice Beam, which froze the pokemon solid.

            “Nice!” Lorelei clapped.

She was rooting for Articuno after all.

            Lance frowned. < Articuno-san… >

            < … Chosen? >

< How came you to be captured? >

< How else? He came with the Master Ball and then succeeded in taking my siblings as well… >

            < I shall free you. >

            < Thank you, cousin. >

Blizzard blew up next, as Ash winced. Something was wrong…

Starmew’s Restoration Rain took care of the freeze status, but it also healed Articuno. The two began battling again.

Ash sighed. He did want to end this…

            Well, it would work then.

            “Sheer Cold…”

That did the trick, one-hit KO.

            Good.

Afterwards, he healed Starmew and escaped to the pokemon center before more questions could be asked.

            “You okay?”

< I am fine, Master Ash. I am worried about the legendaries however. >

“So he isn’t a good trainer?”

< Using Master Balls is cheap. >

            “Oh.”

< Do not worry though, they shall be avenged. >

“You’re not going to do anything, are you?”

< No, it shall not be I who acts. Well, little matter. It shall turn out fine. You will be Champion in either case. >

Ash hugged Starmew. * Thank you. *

            < You’re welcome. >

            “Squirtle, you all right?”

Squirtle nodded. After half an hour of sitting in the freezer, he was back to normal, all the excess heat purged from his system.

            I was worried! Bulbasaur scolded.

            Sorry…

He allowed Bulbasaur to fuss over him for a few minutes before she ascertained he was well and everything was fine.

            That was good.

Now what to do? He pondered for a few minutes, before deciding to dwell on it later. He and Bulbasaur split an apple.

            Yummy!

            Meanwhile, Hank’s apartment…

            “AHHHHHHHHH! My pokemon are gone!”

Sure enough, Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos had been stolen.

            His Sentret and Raticate remained.

“Damn whoever did this to hell! How dare they?”

“Oh, I dare.” Lance said, closing down her magic mirror. The three had returned home, but not before they had cast the seals.

The legendaries – they would not be touched for another fifty years now, by any pair of hands.

Well… price had to paid. It was equivalent trade.

            No friends… and no enemies.

            But it was fair.

            < Lugia-san? >

< Nothing yet, Chosen. But we should prepare just in case. >

            < Hai, Lugia-san. >
