Fire Soul: Chapter 3: Flames of Rage

            “WHAT?!”

Charlotte held her cell phone away from her ear. “Calm down, Lance! I bet they heard you in the Orange Islands!”

“You’re insane! It’s not time yet!”
“But I can’t hold onto the balance any longer. You know that. And he’s not ready…so you’ll have to do it.”

            “You are insane.”

            “Thank you, Dragon Master.”

            “I mean it!”

“Do you have a better idea?”

There was a sudden silence on the other side of the line. But she had expected it. After all, Ice was still a bit… unstable.

Charlotte hung up her phone. Then, she went and dressed in her golden armor over her dark red robes.

“Time to stop the darkness before it revives.”

Her fiery wings sprouted out of her back, and she summoned forth her Fire Blade, and then she was on her way.

Misty and Brock were walking along with Pikachu when Charlotte suddenly swooped down in front of them.

Brock instantly went into pretty girl drool mode.

Pikachu looked confused. This stranger smelled a little bit like Pikapi…

            “Who are you?” Misty demanded.

Charlotte smiled. “As if you don’t know, MissingNo.”

Misty seemed to shrink back for a second, before a dark light blazed in her eyes. “So you have found me.” She hissed, voice suddenly turning ugly. “So be it. DIE!” From her hands came torrents of water.

“Jump.” Charlotte said, transparent wings appearing on her ankles as she vaulted out of the way. * She’s still weak. Good. *

            “Heaven’s Glow!”

Misty screamed as she was drenched in light. “AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Pikachu suddenly jumped in front of her. However, the attack just went through the little mouse.

            What? Pikachu asked.

Charlotte narrowed her eyes. * So Ash left one of his pokemon with her… that’s bad. I may have to dispose of it, to make sure it’s not tainted with darkness. *

            “Flames of Rage!”

Misty screamed in agony as the fires began consuming her. “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

There was a flash of light, and a sudden shower quickly put out the fire.

Charlotte turned to see Ash there. “Leave Misty alone!”
“You still don’t’ know, do you, Thunder’s child?” Charlotte asked.

Ash narrowed his eyes. “What did Misty ever do to you?!”

“Good question.” Charlotte said. “Mm… she’s only killed me four times already…”

Ash blinked. Charlotte quickly threw a net over him… a net of pure light energy. Ash struggled, but was caught fast.

“Don’t meddle in affairs you don’t understand yet, Thunder’s child!” Charlotte said, her anger getting the better of her. “And now it ends. Light Ray!”

From her hands came a beam of stars, spiraling off into more and more rings. Misty cried out as the stars all smashed into her. From her body, a black shape emerged, still hissing angrily.

“I’ve found you, Missingno.” Charlotte said. “And now, you pay. Eternal Flame!”
Fire surrounded missingno, but as they surrounded him, they turned red, then orange, then yellow, then white, and finally, a glowing gold, ethereal rainbow color, too bright to peer into.

There was an agonizing shriek, and then she simply vanished.

Charlotte dusted off her hands and dissappitated the net with a snap of her fingers.

“What did you do to Misty!?” Ash demanded.

“You still don’t’ know, do you.” Charlotte said.

            “What?!”

“The triple guardianship is a balance. Missingno disrupts that balance we are trying to protect.” Charlotte said.

            “But!”
“Misty is Missingno. Get it through your thick head!” Charlotte said, starting to feel snappish. “Can’t you see what you’re doing to Lance?!”

Ash stared at her. “What do you mean?”

“Ice’s child teeters on the brink of madness, without Thunder to keep her steady she will fall.” Charlotte said, before she vanished in a puff of smoke.

            Leaving a stricken Ash behind.

“Um… Ash?” Brock finally ventured to ask. “What was that all about?”

“You do not want to know.” Ash said silently before he vanished as well.

Ash sat on the edge of a balcony, dangling his legs over and wondering about what Charlotte had screamed at him.

“Lance-chan looked kind of drained and tired the last time I talked to her, but… it’s not my fault is it?”

            < What’s not your fault? >

< Sunny! > Ash said, recognizing the familiar jolteon. < I missed you! >

< Me too, lil’ brother, me too. > Sunny sent. She licked his face. Ash was carefully balancing them so they wouldn’t fall.

< Sunny? Why was Aneki mad at me? >

Sunny stopped. < It’s not for me to tell. >

            < What? But I didn’t hurt Lance-chan, did I? She’d tell me if I hurt her, wouldn’t she? >

< I don’t know, Ash. Ice tends to keep her pain hidden away inside her. >

            < Aniki… > Ash sighed. < I’m so confused… >

< You could always, ask, right? >

Ash brightened up a little. < You’re right, Sunny! Thank you! > He hugged the jolteon again, and then spread his shiny golden wings and flew off towards Indigo Plateau.

“Well, this is interesting.” Charlotte muttered as she closed her viewing portal. “Looks like it’ll work out.” She yawned. “Time for hibernation…” A cocoon of red-gold energy surrounded her and she fell into a deep sleep.

< And I hope for their sake that it does… >
