Year Two of Glitch City

Chapter 3

Bright and early that morning, Ash left Glitch City for a few minutes, taking his pokemon with him.

They swung by Professor Oak’s lab and discretely picked up the pokemon he had left there. Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and their baby Bubblesaur were very happy to see him. (Bubblesaur (water/grass.) a light blue color with a dark green bulb on its back surrounded by a ring of bubbles. It also has fin-like ears and a long spiky blue tail, but is relatively bulbasaur shaped)

Apparently crossbreeding sometimes produced new species.

            She was very cute though.

Ash also checked his watch. Two hours until the portal closed. He had to see his mom!
He quickly ran to his house.

            “Ash!”

“Mom!” Ash cried, hugging her tightly. Delia cried freely, glad her baby was safe.

“Ash, I heard from your friends that you vanished after you left the Safari Zone.”

Ash nodded. “I guess you could say that.”

“Are you all right? Have you been changing your underwear? You’ve been eating, right? Oh! You’ve grown an inch taller!”

“I’m sorry, mom. I didn’t mean to vanish.” Ash said truthfully. “It just kind of happened unexpectedly.”

            “Were you kidnapped?”
            ‘No.”

“You’re going to leave again, though, right?”

            “How did you know?”

“Your father had that gleam in his eye whenever he was about to go off journeying to a distant place…”

“I’m sorry for making you worry, mom… I would have called or written if I could.”

            “There weren’t any phones there?”

            “No.”

It was odd… no phones, but there were holograms and high technology… oh well…

“Very well, Ash. Take care then.” Delia said.

Ash was about to leave, after having eaten a home-cooked meal for the first time in over a year, when something struck him.

            “Mom…”

            “Yes?”

“Did you ever consider becoming a trainer?”

Delia looked amused. “Not really, no.”

            “Well… um…”

“You want me to go with you?”

            “Maybe…”

“I did pass the test, so long ago, but then I had you, and I settled down.”

            “Oh!”

Ash would have said more, but that was when the portal to Glitch City sucked them both in.

Delia looked around. “Where are we?”

“Glitch City, mom. This is where I was.”

            “Looks nice.”

Professor Lithium came running. “I’m so sorry! I – Ash, who is this?”

            “My mom.”

“Your mother! How interesting.” The man kissed her hand, and to Ash’s surprise, Delia blushed rosily.

            Hmm….

Well, Professor Lithium was about thirty, around his mom’s age…

He’d make a good father, probably.

“So you’re the one who has been taking care of my son. You must have been quite busy.”

“Oh, no, no, he’s a good child.”

The two of them walked off, leaving Ash alone.

            “… That’s interesting.”

Yes! Pikachu said; her eyes alight. If your mom stays here too, then you can live here, can’t you?

            Yes, yes! Chansey said brightly.

            Ash smiled. “Hai…”

His pokemon all gave him hugs, glad he had returned. After all, for most of them, this was home.

He didn’t mind battling, but most of the time, they just played and enjoyed each other’s company.

That is, when he wasn’t busy helping Professor Lithium with his experiments.

            It was fascinating.

He learned so much he had never known before.

Three months later, Professor Lithium proposed to Delia, and she accepted. Professor Neon married them, in a small ceremony.

Life was about as perfect as it got…

            He had a father again!

Delia said his real father had died when he was three, and he believed her, never thinking of possibly another option.

In any case, Professor Lithium was real.

            It was odd, though…

Why weren’t there any other trainers?

It had been four years since he had come to this world, almost…

He was sitting on the porch swing, a glass of lemonade in hand.

            His pokemon mostly were sleeping.

No one would steal them here.

Besides, they would find a way home.

However, good things can’t last forever…

Ash was about to find this out the hard way.
