It had been an unexpected consequence of war, and the government had written it off as a loss, but for five people, the destruction of the Viridian Forest was so much more than just habitat.

The ones who had been blessed with Viridianfs power were now cursed. Without the forest to stabilize the errant energy in their bodies, they had quickly changed, unable to counter the effects.

Yellowfs power had lain in healing, but without the Mother to smile upon her, she had snapped. Some critical link transmuted, changing her power of healing into that of death. Now, her touch could drain a human or pokémon to death. The first time she had healed and killed, she had been sick for days. Now, she tried so hard not to touch anyone elsec

Lancefs power had enabled him to control the minds of thousands of dragon pokémon through an extensive series of mental links, but they had broken, and the pokémon had run wild without his guidance.

Giovanni had been able to boost pokémon abilities. His pokémon were stronger in his presence, and he could raise their attack every time he healed them, but they had gone wild and torn him to pieces. One dead.

Charlotte was an old woman, with the power of clairvoyance. Dreams and nightmares haunted her every waking moment, and the visions drove her mad, as she saw a hundred thousand pasts and futures the moment she left her house and entered society. Small wonder that she retreated to her sea cottage and shunned all company.

Red had been unaware of his power, but he was empathic – a fact that came in very handy during pokemon battles. However, as he walked the streets now, he was buffeted by wave after wave of emotion, feeling pain and joy and lust and despair all at once. He took to avoiding people like the plague. Even pokémon were unbearable if there were more than a few around.

For a while, Red and Yellow stayed together. Viridian City was practically a ghost town now, and it made them both feel better. The Forestfs presence was almost tangible, even though the Forest had been decimated. But thenc

When Red woke up to find Yellow emanating waves of guilt and love, and himself barely able to move, he couldnft take it anymore. She had almost killed him! Even if she had just wanted to kiss him, the effects had taken control.

So that night, he took Aeroy, and flew towards Whirl Islands, deciding that from now on, he would just stay in uninhabited regions.

            c. Which would have been a good ideac

Except that Whirl Islands really wasnft empty.

The army of wild water pokémon that kept attacking him was enough evidence, and he collapsed on the floor of the hidden chamber, as Lance stared.

            What?
