Chapter 3

“You-.” Was all Yellow got up before Lance calmly placed her hands on the girl’s shoulders, and pulled.

Yellow gave a muffled scream, but her eyes rolled back in her head and she fell to the ground, a lifeless corpse.

“There we go.” Lance smiled. “Much better.”

She looked around, finding the poke balls with Yellow’s pokemon and Red’s Pika still in them. Shrugging, she flew back to Cinnabar.

            Red was waiting.

            “What did you do?”

“Nothing to concern yourself with, Red. Here’s your Pikachu back, though I suggest you put him through a conditioning cycle.”

The rest of Yellow’s pokemon, Lance had dropped off at a pokemon adoption home on the way back.

Red rolled her eyes. “I don’t want to know what you did, Lance.”

“I figured out how this works at least.” Lance said, powering down, as the red faded from her eyes.

“… Should I take that as a good thing or a bad thing?”

“Take it how you will, Red.”

“At least you’re healed now, right?”

            “Mmhmm.”

“So… I have to go to that medal ceremony tomorrow. I’m guessing you don’t want to come.”

Lance let her expression show exactly how she felt about that.

“Well… so… now that you’re all better… are you going to Johto?”

“They say that the best place to hide is right in plain sight.” Lance grinned. “So tell me, Red. Would you mind having a girlfriend?”

“Me? But I am a girl – oh.” Red blushed.

Lance slid off the bed, wearing a predatory grin. “It’s only for appearances, Red.”

“No. I don’t mind at all!” Red squeaked out. “And you are really pretty as a girl…”

            “We should go clothes shopping.”

            “Huh?” Red blinked.

“You don’t have that many girl’s clothes, and I need clothing, Red.”

“Oh. Yes.” That made sense. Red smacked her hormones into the back of her mind. Lance had been too squeamish to borrow Red’s underwear, so Red had gone to a fabric store and come back to the room with a few bolts of white, and Lance had stitched herself new undergarments.

            She was talented.

They spent a few minutes tidying up the hotel room, and then flew off.

It would be safe to go back to Kanto now, and they were already packed, anyways. So they flew to Celadon – Red back in her disguise as a boy, and Lance looking quite girly with her hair down in waves and her eyes – well…

She had called up her power, so her eyes looked scarlet. Plus, wearing cute pink overalls helped too, though Lance swore she would never be caught dead in them again.

At least this way no one would look up her skirt.

The Celadon Mall was quite a daunting place. Red had ordered what few girls’ clothes she had online, and the prospect of actually having to shop was… different. Luckily, boys were not expected to know these things, so she followed Lance around as she swept through store after store, watching the shopping bags pile high.

How were they going to pay for all of this?

“Cat, why are you buying all of this?”

“Don’t worry, some of it’s for you.”

            “What? Why?”

“Because, you need a few more outfits, just in case you ever… you know.”

Red sighed. “It’s so much easier being a boy.”

            “I know.”

“Is that the reason you cross-dress too?”

“Actually, the real reason is that… well, I’ll tell you about it later.”

“I suppose that’s all right.” Red agreed grudgingly, as she watched Lance come out of the changing stall. Her jaw dropped.

Gold-washed black silk fell to her feet, but it was in the slim Oriental style, so both sides were slit up to her hip. Underneath, she had procured a pair of black knee boots with heels.

Red goggled, as Lance surveyed herself in the three-way mirror.

“I think I’ll take this. You can stop staring now, Red.”

Red snapped her jaw back with an audible click. “Wow….”

“Yes, well, I’m not busty enough to wear a lot of those clothes,” Lance indicated a rack full of garish dresses just outside the changing room area, “But it’s a lot easier to shift this way.”

            “Mm.” Red said, still staring.

“Like what you see?” The Dragon Master asked, dropping her voice into a lower register. Red bit back a groan.

This wasn’t right! She and Lance were just friends, even if they were pretending to be more right now!

Lance stepped forwards, closing the distance between them, and bent down, kissing Red on the cheek. “I know you’re in shock. Relax. Breathe…”

Red’s mind finally started paying attention, and she colored. “Sorry about that.”

“It’s fine. I’m sure it’s just the shock of seeing me in something like that.” Lance closed the door and began unfastening the buttons at the throat. “I like these Oriental style gowns… they’re very nice… and Red, I’m paying for all this, so no worries. My credit card still works.”

            Red managed a smile.

“As Catelyn, that is... I think we’ve got enough for now.”

Red would have spoken again, but that was when the dressing room attendant came in.

            “Is everything all right, dear?”

“Yes, ma’am.” Lance said quietly, her voice having risen into a higher register. “I’ll be taking this one.”

“Excellent! Would you like to see some more of our styles?”

            “Maybe another day.”

            “Very well.”

Lance changed back into the pink overalls, paid for her purchases, and then she and Red flew back to Pallet Town.
