Chapter 1

Rattata, Pidgey, and Spearow.

That was all that one ever saw on earth.

Then, they came in their silver ships. They were known as the kindly ones. They brought new species, and the land flourished under their care…

            Yet…

Soon, greed took root. Envy. Contempt. And the wanderers realized this, and left, and never returned.

Slowly, the pokemon changed, adapted to earth, but they never forgot their real homes beyond the stars.

And in their souls, anger at the injustice burned brightly.

            Come back…

            Come back for us…

            “Princess! Please! It’s dangerous!”

Clair adjusted her Dragonair-laced gloves and frowned at the speaker. “Mahogany, I will be perfectly safe. Lance is going with me.”

The old advisor shook his head. “I know your brother is one of our best warriors, but why take the risk?”

“You know why. It’s our duty to bring them home where they belong.” Clair said reasonably.

“We cannot let them stay there, tainted. We will not forsake them.” A voice cut in, as Lance walked up to his sister. “And then, we will punish those who have trespassed in their souls…”

Silver metal glittered; he was clad in silver armor, form-fitting silversteel, and a cape of blood red drifting from his shoulders.

“We’ll be just fine.” Clair reassured the old man. “Let’s begin.”

Lance nodded, and they linked hands, auras flaring blue as the teleport sequence initiated.

            It was time.

            Do not worry.

            We are coming for you.

Ash looked up at the sky… and nearly fainted when he saw two people falling out of it. The teenager gasped and released his Pidgeot, ordering her to catch them, but then saw it wasn’t necessary.

Each one had released a Dragonair, and they swooped down to land with flair on the ground. Ash gaped.

            “Clair? Are you all right?”

“I’m fine, you don’t need to fuss over me.” Clair said practically. “Now, to start… well, we can’t waste too much time here, better get to work right away. Plus Mahogany will worry again should we tarry, shall we, brother dear? You start.”

Lance nodded as he removed a slender silver flute from inside of, well, somewhere in his cape (hidden pockets?), and started playing.

Clair took out her own instrument, a lyre, and strummed. * This will be so fun… it’s payback time… and yet, in a way, simply by doing our duty we shall punish them…*

A hypnotic song began to seep through the air. It wove through lyrical phrases, transposed into pokemon language, filtered and fluttered and danced through the atmosphere, and the pokemon listened…

            And they began to gather…

And despite their trainer’s efforts, the capture fields of poke balls were somehow rendered unmoving, broken, shards and splinters, nowhere near good enough to contain their fleeing monsters…

Ash looked alarmed as the wild pokemon actually began to gather around the two musicians. “Hey! What are you doing?”

Lance narrowed his eyes slightly, and Ash suddenly found his voice gone. Confused, he looked around, before finally realizing what had happened, even though he was not quite sure how it had happened.

But it wasn’t bad until the pokemon actually started disappearing into thin air!

Shocked, Ash ran forwards, and this time, hit a wall… literally an invisible wall, like light screen.

Pidgeot looked worried. Ash, I think we should leave.

Ash decided to hide behind a bush, Pidgeot in arm. She was his only pokemon, his only friend… would she leave him as well?

            Please, no…

            But he continued to watch…

Ash was shocked when the two suddenly vanished. “Pidgeot, what are they?” His voice had finally come back.

            Pidgeot sighed. Wanderers.

            “What?”

I suppose you’d call them aliens.

“Aliens? They looked perfectly normal to me, aside from the weird clothes…”

I am trying to explain.  The bird said with dignity. If you didn’t know, many hundreds of years ago, there were only four or five species of pokemon here. However, the wanderers came and brought more… but with a catch.

            “A catch.”

Yes. If the pokemon fell to darkness, the wanderers would take them home where they belonged. This earth would be left barren once more.

“So they have fallen? And that’s why those two are here now?”

            Pidgeot nodded.

            That is correct.

            “I’m so confused…” Ash sighed.

Pokemon… they are sick of seeing humanity’s greed and evil and manipulation. They want to go home.

So they’re calling, calling for the wanderers to take them home, and the wanderers are taking them home as we speak. That is their duty and you must not interfere… you should not have drawn attention to yourself earlier…

            “Then…”

Well, you only have me, and trained pokemon have the choice to stay or go. I’m not from outer space, but….

            “Will you leave?”

            I’m not sure…

            Ash winced.

But he couldn’t do anything to stop it? And it was not his choice or his fault that this was happening…

No, it wasn’t his fault! He had always treated Pidgeot well, and he left out food from dinner leftovers for all the stray rattatas and such. So he wasn’t being punished, right?

If only he were sure Pidgeot would not leave… if only…

But… would it be selfish to keep her here? There was no one answer, no one path that would make everyone happy…
